similar first name to surname...

One of the boy's names we both love is William (would use Will or Bill) but our surname is Williams! Having trouble finding another boy's name we love. Welsh for preference. Would this be cruel? Am thinking it didn't seem to harm David Davies or Edward Wooodward..

Bill Williams is a very common name IME. Of all the hundreds of names out there I'm sure there would be something a little more personal.

shadowofacow erm I certainly did I wasn't at the same school as him I used to get the train home after school think he got one too although not sure but he was there most days, t'was in Aberdeen.

Go to the library, or to Amazon, get one of those books of baby names, and work thru it.

FGS there are 1000's of names in the world, there must be something you like.

When we had ds, our problem was cutting down the shortlist. As it is we had to give him 3 christian names.

I've heard of a child called Tyler Tyler. William Williams isn't quite that bad, but I would really seriously think hard about this and see if you can find some other names you love.

no you can't it would be ridiculous. We loved James but just couldn't name DS that as it was so similar to our surname. Am so glad we didn't as he has really grown into the name we went for and has been teased/bullied at school enough - this would have just increased the opportunities for his self-esteem to take a nose-dive. It's just a name at the end of the day - find another one you like!!
