This is our choice for a boy, girls names are undecided.
We'd love to have honest opinions, as we're keeping it to ourselves until the baby is here.

Grange Hill. Or Eastenders Roly the dog.

Honestly? I don't like it. Sorry.

Ehh Roland Rat ehhehh

I love Roland, it's unusual & it's different without being silly.

If I'd had another girl, I'd have called her Kirsty or Molly (or Lilly or Ellie, or Millie...)

I like it, I have a Ronnie!

DH is here saying "RoLAND" after the guy on Grange Hill.

I'm thinking of Roland rat.

Roland is one of the worst boys names I can think of, sorry. I wouldn't say that if you weren't looking for honest opinions.

sorry...another grange hill connection here....

TsarChasm · 06/06/2009 13:37

Oh dear, yes I instantly thought of Ro-Land from Grange Hill too I'm afraid.

What about Roland Gift from the FYC?

Report
moulesfrites · 06/06/2009 13:42

I will be a lone voice here and say I don't mind it, and think Roly is nice as a nickname. However, I am biased as it is my dad's name and he is a wonderful wonderful man. What about the Italian version - Orlando?

MaggieBee · 06/06/2009 13:45

I like it. I used to work with a Roly and he was lovely.

charmedjane · 06/06/2009 13:47

We were going to use Lando for short, moulesfrite.
Roland from Grange Hill must have been before my time. I don't remember a Roland.

Ratzenberger. The F1 driver who died the same weekend as Ayrton Senna.

Honestly though my first thoughts were the one from Grange Hill and the rat.

Of course your DS's peers won't know any of them though if you do use it, but I wouldn't.

"Ro-LAND why did you eat all those crisps?"

HensMum · 06/06/2009 13:50

It's either Grange Hill or Roland the Rat for me. Don't like it at all.

Lando just reminds me of Lando Calrissian from Star Wars.

Am truly a child of the 80s!

Report
muggglewump · 06/06/2009 13:50

He was a fat guy who they all took the mick out of, hence not a good connection.

Report
fizzpops · 06/06/2009 13:55

If you want Lando as a nn why not Orlando?

Report
charmedjane · 06/06/2009 13:57

Would the Grange Hill Roland really make this name a no no?
It feels like a dubious choice now.

Is Orlando a posh name? I can't see dp agreeing to it.

Sorry, Roland is awful.

Report
MaggieBee · 06/06/2009 14:02

I like Howard too, which is in the same style as ROland but with fewer associations. I think people would get over the Roland associations. It doesn't take name to make a name your own.

Orlando is so ludicrously affected. I would laugh at that one tbh.
