This is our choice for a boy, girls names are undecided.
We'd love to have honest opinions, as we're keeping it to ourselves until the baby is here.

MrsMattie Sat 06-Jun-09 13:29:38

Grange Hill. Or Eastenders Roly the dog.

Honestly? I don't like it. Sorry.

stubbyfingers Sat 06-Jun-09 13:29:52

grange hill

FairLadyRantALot Sat 06-Jun-09 13:30:43

sorry....really do NOT like that at all...

Ivykaty44 Sat 06-Jun-09 13:31:19

Ehh Roland Rat ehhehh

Hormonesnomore Sat 06-Jun-09 13:32:17

I love Roland, it's unusual & it's different without being silly.

If I'd had another girl, I'd have called her Kirsty or Molly (or Lilly or Ellie, or Millie...)

kittywise Sat 06-Jun-09 13:34:09

I like it, I have a Ronnie!

skidoodle Sat 06-Jun-09 13:36:14

DH is here saying "RoLAND" after the guy on Grange Hill.

I'm thinking of Roland rat.

Roland is one of the worst boys names I can think of, sorry. I wouldn't say that if you weren't looking for honest opinions.

chimchar Sat 06-Jun-09 13:36:58

sorry...another grange hill connection here....

TsarChasm Sat 06-Jun-09 13:37:25

Oh dear, yes I instantly thought of Ro-Land from Grange Hill too I'm afraid.

kittywise Sat 06-Jun-09 13:41:10

What about Roland Gift from the FYC?

moulesfrites Sat 06-Jun-09 13:42:45

I will be a lone voice here and say I don't mind it, and think Roly is nice as a nickname. However, I am biased as it is my dad's name and he is a wonderful wonderful man. What about the Italian version - Orlando?

MaggieBee Sat 06-Jun-09 13:45:01

I like it. I used to work with a Roly and he was lovely.

charmedjane Sat 06-Jun-09 13:47:28

We were going to use Lando for short, moulesfrite.
Roland from Grange Hill must have been before my time. I don't remember a Roland.

muggglewump Sat 06-Jun-09 13:49:34

Ratzenberger. The F1 driver who died the same weekend as Ayrton Senna.

Honestly though my first thoughts were the one from Grange Hill and the rat.

Of course your DS's peers won't know any of them though if you do use it, but I wouldn't.

CrushWithEyeliner Sat 06-Jun-09 13:49:42

"Ro-LAND why did you eat all those crisps?"

HensMum Sat 06-Jun-09 13:50:28

It's either Grange Hill or Roland the Rat for me. Don't like it at all.

Lando just reminds me of Lando Calrissian from Star Wars.

Am truly a child of the 80s! grin

muggglewump Sat 06-Jun-09 13:50:33

He was a fat guy who they all took the mick out of, hence not a good connection.

fizzpops Sat 06-Jun-09 13:55:58

If you want Lando as a nn why not Orlando?

charmedjane Sat 06-Jun-09 13:57:37

Would the Grange Hill Roland really make this name a no no?
It feels like a dubious choice now. sad

charmedjane Sat 06-Jun-09 13:59:58

Is Orlando a posh name? I can't see dp agreeing to it.

burningupinspeed Sat 06-Jun-09 14:02:36

Sorry, Roland is awful.

MaggieBee Sat 06-Jun-09 14:02:37

I like Howard too, which is in the same style as ROland but with fewer associations. I think people would get over the Roland associations. It doesn't take name to make a name your own.

Orlando is so ludicrously affected. I would laugh at that one tbh.

aristocat Sat 06-Jun-09 14:09:03

please not roland

do you have any other choices, such a BIG decision...........

ByThePowerOfGreyskull Sat 06-Jun-09 14:10:15

sorry... grange hill thoughts here too.
