When I was pregnant with my daughter, I thought of some unusual names for girls. I put it down to the pregnancy hormones, like a lot of things. What do you think of these names, I am usually very conservative and like traditional names but also liked Merrin and Praise. I still quite like Merrin, but my mother in law thinks it sounds hard and boyish. I think it sounds soft and celtic.
I'm just interested to see what you think, could Praise ever work as a girls name? and should we concidder Merrin if we have another girl?

I like merrin! it doesnt sound boyish. My dd2 is Erin.
Praise is a little more unusual imo. Are you religious??

Merrin is lovely!

It is a very soft sounding name.
Not keen on Praise myself, but you could od a lot worse, lol!

Btw, Lucy is my no.1 choice for as future daughter, so we must naveb similar taste.

Praise is a lot to live up to IMO, although I do like "Virtue" names like Patience, Grace, Hope etc

Merrin - never heard of it

Yes, I was thinking of names such as Hope, Grace etc and thought of praise.
nickytwooooohtimes- Thanks I chose Lucy in the end as it means light and with us going through fertility treatment to have her, then I was extreamly ill throughout my pregnancy so she was the light at the end. and she's been the light of our lives ever since.

I think Merrin or Merryn is scottish. I think the woman in the film Brave Heart was called Merrin, the one that marries him.
I don't know what it means, a lot of baby name books don't have it in.

I nearly called my dd Dahlia.

Merrin is just another version of Muireann isn't it? Irish for Mary Anne, and pronounced a lot like Merrin.

Merrins nice, not sure about praise, my dd was going to have a japanese name in one of my crazy pregnancy hormone moments, cant remember what it was though now.

I know the name Mirren (Scottish I think).

Merrin is lovely - will put it on my future girls' names list too.

Merrin is lovely.

DS#s was nearly called Idony (I still love it) but he was a boy. So he escaped

Meredith is pretty - not so keen on Merrin.

isn't murrin/merrin an anglicized version of the irish gaelic muireann? I'm not too sure though

I like mirren too, but think Merrin sounds sweeter. I like Merry for short too.

Isn't there a Japanese /Thai/ Chinese cooking sauce called something like Merrin? That's what came to my mind first (I could be wrong though).

Praise is a LOT to live up to!

Vicky Pollard is always talking about her best friend Meredith.

i know a Merrin. a guy at work is married to one. it is the first time i heard the name, and he talks about her quite often (he's smitten) and i always think how lovely the name sounds

Praise, Hope, Destiny, Chastity and the like - i think its strange to call your child by an describing word.

Yes, praise is very strange but then so was I when I was pregnant.
I think 5 months of Hyperemesis did somthing to me.

My daughter Lucy could live up to the name though, she's amazing. I couldn't wish for a better more loving daughter.
I might not say the same when she's 13 though.
