Baby names

Does this sound as stupid to other people as it does to me?

We've chosen the middle name of Denise - his granddad's name was Denis and it's a name that recurs through the family.

He wants to give the first name of Nerys (said like Denise, but with an N).

Nerys Denise? He can't see the problem, said it rolls off the tongue! Someone help me make him see sense!

too many sssssss I think. Pity as both names are lovely, but together I just don't think they go. I also think (IMO) that names with the same amount of syllables never sound right together.

I wouldn;t expect Nerys and Denise to rhyme tbh - I think of Nerys pronounced nare-ris and Denise as de-nees. but eithre way it's completely daft. you are so right

No that's not going to work - you are right. He is wrong!

Nerys is Welsh (and Bajoran, I just suggested Kira Denise instead but he wasn't impressed)

I do like both names, Nerys was on our first list with Tink, but not together.

It is a really stupid combination, imo.

Could you go for a variation. Just had a quick look at baby name sites and Denni is amongst them. Not sure I'm that keen but may be a compromise. (I'd always think of that BLondie tune!)

I don't think they rhyme either but don't sound right together.

So is it Nerys said like Ner reece (pretty name btw) but that would be silly with Denise as a middle name

Report
Ledodgy · 11/08/2008 21:06

Nerys is pronounced Ner-is isn't it?

I was just going by how tink was saying it was pronouced (sp) which will be the way she will say it i imagine.

If it doesn't rhyme then that would be fine, but i got the impression OP thought it did

Thanks 1wish, that's just how it's said.

He just asked about doing it the other way around! He's upset now cause Mum just said no! I'm actually not sure how serious he's beeing

Please if you choose it don't say Nerys like Ner-eeeese. Lovely Welsh name : Ner-iss. Have been told by a non Welsh that I said it wrongly and I was just horrified!

Two together sound baaad, but when will you say them together? Know what you mean though...

I'm only voting for animal names now that I've read someone is planning to call their DS Bear.

So I think you should drop Nerys and Denise and go for Running Deer.

WowOoo · 11/08/2008 21:15

It's not Ner-ise either. Just spell it the way you want it maybe?!!

TinkerBellesMum · 11/08/2008 21:16

Even Neris Denise is a difficult combo.

My book says Neh-rees and it's how the Welsh Nerys's I know say it.
