Would love opinions on these - DH has thrown a wild card into our naming discussions.Grin

Ethan Dominic
Jacob Dominic
Lucas Dominic
Samuel Dominic

We both like Lucas, I really like Samuel, we both like Jacob but dislike Jake as a nickname, and DH has thrown out the wildcard of Ethan, which I am not sure about....

I only like Dominic!

In order of preference, Samuel, Jacob, Ethan, Lucas. But I prefer Dominic to all of them!

We can’t use Dominic as a first name, unfortunately, as it’s too alliterative (surname begins with D). But thank you for the vote of confidence in our middle name choices!Grin

Dominic. Alliterative names are the best! The other choices are bland and boring and way overused.

Lucas. It sounds as if both you and DH like it which is great. It’s a lovely soft masculine name. Pick fhag

Dominic is ok but will just be Dom and that’s a bit drab and a nothing name. Love it as your middle name choice

My preference in order:
Jacob (but he will probably become Jake!)
Ethan
Samuel
Lucas (prefer Luke)

Lucas or Samuel. Dislike Ethan a lot.

Love Samuel and Jacob.

Ooh, divided opinions here, interesting!

Can nobody persuade me to fall in love with Ethan?! DH has just come up with it from nowhere. Along with various Old Testament options which I’ve rejected (as he has rejected Joseph, Felix and several of my other favourites Hmm).

Ethan and Jacob. If you don't like Jake don't call him Jake, though he could also be called J.D. I've got a name that has a more used nickname and because neither my parents nor I never called myself that no one else did either.

Ethan Dominic - ok but Ethan is a bit nothingy
Jacob Dominic - you don't like Jake
Lucas Dominic - nice but Lucas is popular. I think you should choose it.
Samuel Dominic - I'd choose this one.

I don't like Dominic but not my baby. I dislike Dom so no to using it as a first name.

Ethan is a beautiful name

Ethan is a male given name of Hebrew origin (איתן) that means firm, strong and long-lived. The name Ethan appears eight times in the Hebrew Bible (1 Kings. 4:31, Ps. 89 title, 1 Chr. 2:6 and 2:8, 1 Chr. 6:42 and 6:44, and 1 Chr. 15:17 and 15:19). See Ethan (biblical figure). It may also be spelled Eitan or Eytan.

Not really keen on any of them, they’re all a bit dull tbh. I think I’d go for Samuel.

Grufallosfriends · 11/09/2019 11:54

I don't like any of them.

If I had to choose, it would be Lucas.

Dominic is the most interesting and has a lovely sound.

I really dislike Ethan.

I love Dominic and see no issue with the initials DD
Ethan, Jacob, Lucas & Samuel are all nice - I possibly like Ethan best as it feels most fresh.

I have a Dominic and it is my absolute favourite of all my name choices ever: he’s now a teenager and it suits him perfectly. Interestingly he is mostly called “Dom D” as he used to refer to himself and Dom D Dom on minecraft (no idea why) and Dom D has stuck!

Lucas is the obvious choice if you both like it, it's nice, and I think it flows best with Dominic.

I'm afraid I don't like any of your choices for a first name. Ethan is by far the worst though.
I do however really like Dominic

I like Dominic best.
Lucas was hugely popular a few years ago, as was Jacob, so they might be a bit dated now. Not keen on Ethan at all.

Thanks everyone - I am just not feeling the love for Ethan.

Interesting that so many people dislike all the names - is it the fact that they’re all quite popular/“safe” choices?

It’s not the same initials I object to with Dominic, it’s the fact that our surname starts with DO (so think Dominic Donnelly - it just sounds too much to me).

Unfortunately, DP has rejected all of my more unusual ideas (Felix, Reuben) and I have rejected his (too many Biblical names to mention, but also names-which-sound-like-surnames, eg Grayson). So mainstream it is.Grin

At the moment, it is likely to be Lucas as I can’t win him round to Samuel and he can’t persuade me to go with Ethan. To be fair, this is how we ended up naming DS.Grin
