Down to 2 - finalising our choice for a girl

NamechangeMcNamechangerson · 28/11/2017 18:52

We have narrowed down our girl's name options to two. First, which do you prefer, and secondly would it be okay to have two girls called these names or is it a bit too like "Romeo and Juliet" (I am almost certainly overthinking this!)?

Rosanna
Julia

?

Before anyone suggests alternatives, we have ruled out Rosie, Rose, Rosa, Rosalind, Rosamund, Rosalie, Juliet, Julie, Juliana etc! These are our favourites...

I love them both, sorry that's no help.

Julia - love this but vetoed by my dh!

Both lovely but Julia gets my vote. Classic and sophisticated without being overused.

I like them both, but I'd go for Rosanna.

Rosanna is my favourite. I think it would be fine to use both names for siblings too.

Julia sounds dated

Julia is very dated . Rosanna gives her lots of nicknames to choose from.

Thanks for your responses, all. It's looking like a landslide in favour of Rosanna. That was our initial choice, and it's DH's preference, but I've had a late lean toward Julia which I've always loved...

Re Julia being "dated", I do want to avoid anything that's seen as trendy now, either because it's new or officially back in vogue (Lily, Ella etc) so the fact that Julia is not considered a "current" name doesn't bother me. I think it sounds beautiful and it's definitely going to be kept in waiting in case of two girls!

@MargotMoon Growing up I always wished I had a name that came with a song! And wondered why there were 5,000 about Carolines!

Julia is much nicer.

I disagree with the others, and find Rosanna more outdated than Julia.

Julia. I wanted it for dd but my mum put me off because she thought it was old fashioned, but she is in her 70s. It's doesn't sound old fashioned to me. I regret not using it. It's beautiful
