Bethan

Already have a DS who has a Welsh name, we live in Wales, DP has a strong Welsh name, our children will be attending a Welsh medium school, etc....

We are hoping to try for another baby next year and I've been thinking about names. I never thought about this name when pregnant with DS but it suddenly quite appealing to me if we ever have a daughter.

Opinions on Bethan? Is it dated? Do you know of any young Bethans?

Was going to say I'm not a fan , but I'm Welsh and I Love Bethan said with the Welsh accent ! Makes it a totally different name imo! 💗

I knew a boy called Bethan. Was that a mistake by his ( non-Welsh speaking ) parents, or can it also be a boy's name? I think he changed it when he grew up.

Bethan was high on my list of Welsh names. I don think it's dated, but there were lots of Bethans in school with me in the 80 and 90s. I like it a lot though. Also on the list was Megan and , Anwen. All easy to pronounce. Much as I like Eleri and names like that, they're harder to pronounce if you're not Welsh.

I like it although prefer Bethany. I don't know any little Bethans and only one grownup.

I live in England (which doesn't help you!) and have a ten year old Bethan - we've only ever met one other of her age, although I do know a 20 something and a 40 something

I frequently see on here that people think the name a little meh but I've always loved it - she's Bea for short which I love too

I don't like it, I find it common (not class related, just a lot of people named Bethan). I don't find it particularly pretty or interesting. I don't lie Beth either though so not surprising.

Bethany is nicer. I know an 8 year old one.

I don't like it, but I also don't like Beth or Bethany, so it's not surprising.

Hate Bethany. But Bethan is lovely in a Welsh accent.

I am a Bethan and i love it! Not met many others, but currently work with two unusually! I hate being called Beth or Bethany. My family call me Betty which i love, some friends call me Bea.

Hope that helps!

I love Bethany and this would have been top of my list but our surname begins with a B and it just doesn't sound right together x

Bethan was hugely popular in Wales in the 1960s and 70s.
It is dated.
Bethan pronounced the Welsh way is pretty, but the anglicised Bethany without the y isn't nice.
