Madison or Madelyn?

We will be using Maddie. We're not looking for opinions on Maddie :)

Also, we're not looking for opinions on the spelling of Madelyn (this is the most popular in the US - I'm not American, but I'm just saying that it's a well established spelling). We want it to be obvious about the pronunciation we would like - Madeleine seems to be Mad-eh-len and Madeline seems to be Mad-eh-line, so that's what we have decided :)

Anyway, should we go for Madison or Madelyn as the BC name?

Madelyn, no question, good classic name, no associations with porn or shopping, pretty.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/03/2017 14:01

Madelyn

I prefer just Maddie, but of the two longer options I'd pick Madelyn. Madison is too surnamey/place-namey.

pilates · 19/03/2017 15:02

Madelyn

Pencilvester · 19/03/2017 15:44

Madison, but dislike both. Madeleine is much nicer than both, IMO.

Loyly · 19/03/2017 15:51

Madelyn (though I only like it spelt Madeleine)

LaGattaNera · 19/03/2017 15:53

I know someone with the surname Madelyn - pronounced maid-lyn - I prefer Madison.

NotYoda · 19/03/2017 15:59

Madelyn

Madonna?
Madge?

Sophronia · 19/03/2017 17:11

Madelyn

Madelyn is a proper name and far more classy , however you choose to spell it.

Google tells me that Madison was originally an English surname meaning 'SON of Maud', apparently. It's use to name little girls only started after the film 'Splash' in the 80s, where the mermaid character names herself this (because she sees it on a street sign). So made up, basically!

ElizaDontlittle · 19/03/2017 17:39

I'm not sure it's obvious, at least to me, what pronunciation you are after - is it Mad-uh-lin or Maid-lin?
If that's a problem I'd go for Madison, which has grown on me the last decade or so. Maddie is lovely!

mummytobemaybe · 19/03/2017 17:54

I like Madeleine (spelt this way).
Madelyn is okay but looks wrong to me.
Hate Madison

SuperBeagle · 19/03/2017 19:40

Madelyn. Smile

Madelyn

Kazzawazza69 · 19/03/2017 20:26

Madison

DramaAlpaca · 19/03/2017 20:29

I don't mind either of them.

That's not helpful though, so if I had to choose I'd go for Madelyn.

buttercup54321 · 19/03/2017 21:38

Whenever I hear Maddie I think McCann.

I have a MadelynStar

Classic, beautiful name imo.

I chose the spelling as I didn't want her struggling spelling her name which I always had too.

I adore her name

CaliforniaHorcrux · 20/03/2017 11:54

Madison

1horatio · 20/03/2017 13:49

Madeleine.

But Madelyn is better than Madison imo.
