Newtssuitcase Fri 03-Feb-17 17:39:28

Layla looks like you don't know how to spell Leila

n0ne Fri 03-Feb-17 17:39:43

Def Leila

Thirtyrock39 Fri 03-Feb-17 17:40:12

Laila

I don't know if you say 'Leila' as 'l-ay-la' or 'l-eye-la', I would obviously say Layla as the first of those.

Ankleswingers Fri 03-Feb-17 17:41:20

Prefer Layla hands down.

Leila I'm just not so keen on.

GenerationsLP Fri 03-Feb-17 17:41:41

They're both pronounced the same.

Laila isn't an option smile

babyblabber Fri 03-Feb-17 17:43:14

Way prefer Leila

TheRealBarenziah Fri 03-Feb-17 17:44:34

I have a friend called Layla, I really like it

Allofme2017 Fri 03-Feb-17 17:45:56

I know a Leila pronounced Lee-la.

raviolidreaming Fri 03-Feb-17 17:49:51

Layla, as in the Eric Clapton song.

GenerationsLP Fri 03-Feb-17 17:51:20

Allofme she pronounces it incorrectly wink

CactusFred Fri 03-Feb-17 17:54:29

Layla because just reading that spelling plays the opening rift of Eric Clapton's classic.

alteredimages Fri 03-Feb-17 17:55:42

I would spell it Leila for ليلى and Layla or Lela for ليلة.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Fri 03-Feb-17 18:04:27

Leila.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards Fri 03-Feb-17 18:07:49

I like both equally. I would normally have a definite preference for the more 'traditional' spelling of a name but in this situation I think both spellings are fine

GreatScot8 Fri 03-Feb-17 18:58:51

Layla.

It's the original spelling, despite what most people think. Plus, Leila removes the song connection and that song is one of the greatest ever written.

Awwlookatmybabyspider Fri 03-Feb-17 19:13:16

Layla or Laila

MrsMeeseeks Fri 03-Feb-17 19:25:59

DramaAlpaca Fri 03-Feb-17 21:33:55

Layla

MixedGrill Fri 03-Feb-17 21:36:22

Leila.

MixedGrill Fri 03-Feb-17 21:41:29

How is 'Layla' the original? It's an Arabic / Hebrew / Persian name so and spelling in English would be phonetic from the original language.
