Ah just seen Eveline, is it pronounced the same?

Report
lucieloos · 20/12/2016 10:49

Thank you, Evelyn doesn't really go that well with my surname although I guess Eveline isn't that different.

I like Isobel, not the frilly spelling.

I have an Elena, pronounced e-lay-na. So really it's a question of whether you want that or a less beautiful name Grin

Report
lucieloos · 20/12/2016 13:50

Thanks Raines, do you find Elena gets confused with Eleanor?

Maya and Thea are my favourites from your list.

I'm not sure if it matters to you but Ellie is incredibly popular at the moment, and all those names beginning with 'El' may well get shortened to Ellie when she's older. It would put me off just due to sheer popularity.

Amelie - Okay, will always be misheard for Emily though
Ameline - Not sure
Arianna - Quite nice
Charlotte Mia - I prefer Charlotte on its own
Charlotte Mari - Ditto
Charlotte Mari Ann - Ditto
Charlotta - No
Hannah - A bit 80s
Eira - Will be mispronounced and misspelt
Emmeline - A bit flouncy for me
Eleanor / Elinor - Meh
Elena - Will be misspelt
Eleni - Will be misspelt
Eliana - Quite nice
Elise - Okay
Eliza - I love this
Elodie - Quite nice
Emiliana - A bit fancy for me
Emmylou - No!
Eveline - Sounds like a brand of make-up
Isabella - Too popular
Isabelle - Too popular
Maisie - Okay
Marianne - Too 80s
Mariella - I quite like this
Marielle - Might be confused with Muriel?
Maya - Will be misprounced (is it My-ah or May-ah?)
Thea - Okay

Sorry, it looks like I've been really harsh but I think we must have quite different tastes!

Swear, yes I'm not particularly keen on the nn Ellie so that is a concern.

Busy, no probs I'm looking for all sorts of opinions. The second names to go with Charlotte would be middle names.

Most of these are a bit too fussy for me.

I love Eliza, like Eleni, Elinor and Thea.

How about Ariane? Simpler than Arianna and more beautiful for it, I think :)

Report
Sophronia · 20/12/2016 18:19

Amelie - Don't like this. It doesn't sound nice in a non-French accent, IMO. Prefer Amelia.

Ameline - Don't like. It seems made up.

Arianna - Don't like. Too heavily associated with Ariana Grande at the moment.

Charlotte Mia - Like this. I have a 10yo relative named Charlotte Mia. Grin

Charlotte Mari - I don't know how Mari is pronounced, so I would say no to this one.

Charlotte Mari Ann - See above, plus I don't like Ann.

Charlotta - Don't like. Seems like a misspelling of Carlotta?

Hannah - Love, love, love.

Eira - Don't like. Don't know how to pronounce this.

Emmeline - Prefer just Emily. Never know whether to pronounce it Emma-LEEN or Emma-LINE.

Eleanor / Elinor - Dislike. Also dislike Ellie.

Elena - Love, but I pronounce this differently than most people. Here, it's pronounced Eh-LAY-nah, but where my DH is from it's pronounced Eh-LEE-nah, and here on Mumsnet it seems to be pronounced ELL-eh-nah.

Eleni - Like this a lot, but very Greek, if that bothers you?

Eliana - Nope, too OTT.

Elise - Fine, but boring.

Eliza - Dislike. Prefer Elizabeth.

Elodie - Lovely. Increasing in popularity, if that bothers you.

Emiliana - Nope, too OTT. Emilia is lovely, however.

Emmylou - Nope, but love Emmy on its own.

Eveline - Prefer Evelina, but quite sweet nonetheless.

Isabella - Lovely, but dislike Izzy/Issy. Bella is very sweet.

Isabelle - Dislike. Much more liable to being shortened to Izzy.

Maisie - "Mouse". I prefer Daisy.

Marianne - I want to like this, but don't. The Marianne Faithfull association is awesome though.

Mariella - Nope.

Marielle - Nope.

Maya - Fine, but very popular at the moment. I prefer Mia.

Thea - Fine, but quite lispy.

My 5 month old is called Eliana so obviously that's my fav! I call her Elly so if you don't like the shortened name I wouldn't do it as it will definitely get shortened! I think this name is absolutely gorgeous!
