I've been on here with about a hundred middle name options so far for Orla. Now DH and I are talking about this. Do you think it's a mouthful?

I really like Orla and I love Elspeth. I'd go for Elspeth Orla but as you're dead set on Orla as the first name, I'd say go for it. Not a mouthful in my mind, in fact it flows really nicely.

Really not a fan of Orla tho sorry

Elspeth is a lovely idea, but with Orla I do think it's a bit of a mouthful TBH.

The vowel sounds clash.

I don't like Elspeth though.

Orla's sweet.

Don't like two vowels together . One of my DGDs is Isla Eve and I don't think it flows. We also have an Orla Kate which I love.

I think it's a beautiful name, not too much of a mouthful at all IMO.

Beautiful. Elspeth is one of my most favourite names. I don't see a problem using it with Orla.

Doesn't really go.

Orla Eliza?
Orla Elise?

IMHO they feel very clunky in your mouth saying them together in that order. I don't feel like they 'go' together through their sound or in fact their spelling.

However unless you are planning on always using both names as their form of address 'Come here Orla Elspeth!' it doesn't much matter tbh.

I gave my children middle names. Neither they, nor us, nor anyone else really, ever use or refer to them. It only seems a big deal in that newborn period.

Elspeth is gorgeous.

Not so wild about Orla - sorry.

I think they are both lovely names when used alone - there was just something about the combination that made my eye have a crash and see Orla as Oral.

I have an Orla on its own . Couldn't find a middle name !

Orla Elspeth is lovely, go with your heart. I wouldn't have chosen most of the names of my friends' kids but they wear them so well, now I think they're perfect... each has such different character so why not different names Smile

Have Elspeth just as a middle name? I think it's a mouthful when double barrelled as a first name with Orla.
loveyogalovelife is right though, I've heard friends naming their kids and thought 'bloody hell, that's awful' but 3/4/5 years on it's just their wee names and it suits them.
If you and hubby love it, that's all that matters

thenewwife I didn't say we'd hyphenate it (we definitely wouldn't - Elspeth was just a middle name suggestion Smile ).

oleoleoleole I love Orla Joy but Joy is SIL's middle name and she wants to use it if she ever has a DD, and was a bit weird about the idea of us using it. It put DH off.

I'm naming first child and losing the plot - we just don't have similar tastes AT ALL! Baby likely to be called c'mere at this rate!

I love the name Orla. Don't overthink it. Maybe wait til you see what she looks like and then call it. It's hard when not your first child as you use up all your favourite names on the earlier one!!

Dislike Orla, like Elspeth
