Baby names

Ryan or Bradley?

Expecting a baby boy in 6 weeks. DH is very dismissive of most suggestions, but seems fixated on either Ryan or Bradley. I quite like both but I'm not totally convinced and can't make my mind up which I prefer! He will be a brother to DD Carla (2.5), and middle name likely to either be the one we don't use or Benjamin.

Others on my shortlist were Guy, Oakley, Scott, Todd, Rufus, Blake, Jake, Ralph and Rafa. DH not keen! Open to any other suggestions along these lines.

Thanks in advance for your input!

I prefer Ryan and would go with Benjamin as middle name. Or even Benjamin Ryan.

Ryan is the best of the two options definitely.

I do prefer Blake or Jake from your list though!

Riley? A mixture of Ryan and Bradley. Then Benjamin as a middle name. Or Scott as middle name from your list.

Ryan and Bradley seem very 90s names to me.

Thanks for the comments - feeling better about Ryan already!

Yes they are a bit 90's but that's probably our fault. We aren't massively keen on the trend for old names (Arthur, Archie, Alfie, Wilfred etc) and we also don't want something too popular so anything in the top 25 (Oscar, Freddie, Jack etc) we have also ruled out. We want it to be recognisable, easy to spell and easy to pronounce but not too popular or over-used. Which I think means most of our names sound quite out of fashion!

Please do keep the opinions coming - it's really helpful!

Going against the grain to say I don't like ryan much but do like Bradley -it's quite unusual these says, and is a nice solid name. Not that it matters but Bradley means a clearing in the woods, Ryan means little king

I'm not a fan of Ryan at all - I have a few teacher friends who say all the Ryan's they've met (whilst no doubt funny and overall nice) are the "naughty" kids in the class. Put me off.

Bradley isn't too bad but the shortening to Brad would put me off.

Carla is such a lovely lovely name. What about Toby or Benjamin (and maybe have Benjamin Bradley Surname)

DH's cousin is Benjamin with the same surname, so we can't really use it as a first name - which is a shame as we both love it! I also like Toby. DH is a teacher though and has taught lots of them so that has put him off that.

Just to throw it out there, we talked about Owen or Rufus this morning and they seemed to be mutually agreeable! Our surname is quite Welsh though (even though we aren't).... Is Owen too Welsh, or do you not really think of that?

We also liked Ralph until I heard it means to be sick in the US!

As always thanks for all the input - it is really helping!

Ryan. Or, better, Owen.

Bradley is too dated and just...no.

Ryan.

Nothing appealing about Bradley.

I work in education.

Give Ryan and Bradley a wide berth.
