Also, if I go with Noah - is Leah a big no?

I like it but I'm reading it as sounding like "Lee". Is it not pronounced thar way? Is it more "lee-ah'?

Report
MrsGradyOldLady · 04/12/2015 15:12

Oh no I'm thinking of "Leigh" I think. I think I prefer that especially with Noah.

I really like Leah.
Are you naming twins?

I love Leah, it's one of my favourite names. I probably wouldn't use it with Noah (which is also lovely) though.

It's pronounced like Noah, but instead of 'No', it's 'Le' - so it's 2 syllables! Yep! Twins! We had her name sorted, but we have both gone off it - my DM just named her kitten the name we were going to use and now it's a big no!

Although I like Leah very much, I don't think I'd use it together with Noah, it's too similar.
What about Leonie, that's a lovely name?

Leonie and Noah.

Leonie is really nice Smile but MIL is Leona and I think it would be too close! Is Noelle too much like Noah?

I think Leah is pretty but it is quite similar to Noah. Personally I don't like 'samey' twin names but they're not completely uncommon so maybe not a reason to veto the name.

However I do think Noelle is definitely way too close to Noah, maybe it's having the same sound at the beginning which makes it more obvious. If the choice is Leah or Noelle I'd go Leah, however unless you are looking for 'matching' names I think better to steer clear of anything starting with 'No' or ending in 'ah' if you're using Noah.

Bluesicles · 04/12/2015 15:45

I wasn't specifically looking for matching names, but the names that we both like just seem to match Confused

I've got twins and I specifically chose non matchy names. Don't do it. They already get treated as part of a matching pair by many many people.

Are yours different genders? I feel like you can get away with it more if they are!

Yes they are. They're so different in terms of both looks and personality that they don't even look related. They're 15 now so have totally different friends and a lot of people don't know they're twins at school.

When they were young though they were always put in the same classes, invited to the same parties, put in the same groups etc. A lot of people called them "the twins". I think all this forced togetherness wax quite hard for them and is probably the reason that they actually can't stand each other now Grin

Allalonenow · 04/12/2015 15:53

Yes I agree with you that it's too close to MIL's name.
I like Noelle, but not sure about Noelle and Noah.

On the other hand, once they are grown up, have left school etc, they really won't be "The Twins" any longer, so maybe it's over thinking to worry about the names being too similar, and you should just go with names that you love? Xmas Smile

I think I didn't help the situation either though as I enrolled them in a lot of the same after school activities and never asked for them to be split up. I think I always hoped they'd eventually find something they had in common other than parents. Didn't happen.

Yeah Smile I think it's between Leah & Noah - Noelle & Noah...

Get him to say them out loud and see how they sound together you will be introducing them as a set for a few years I prefer Leah and Noah Noah/Leah sounds better than Noah/Noelle

Allalonenow · 04/12/2015 16:08

Well Leah and Noah would be my choice.

Unless they are born on Christmas Day, in which case Noelle would be irresistible!! Thanks Xmas Smile

Love Leah. How about Leah and Nate? (Nate is often short for Nathaniel if you want a proper name)

I think Leah and Noah is getting a bit Biblical/matchy-matchy.

Lara and Noah?

Bluesicles · 04/12/2015 16:13

I love Noah and couldn't change that - I was thinking 3 other names, but Noah is the one! Leah goes will, IMO - other option was Hailey or Darcie

I love Leah, I have one of my own who is 11 now - she was the only one in her primary school so although it's well known it's not too popular.

I think you could get away with Leah and Noah but Noah and Noelle sound too similar to me.
