Baby names

Eva/Ava/Eve

One of these is my favourite girl's name. Is it my imagination or is every baby girl born recently called one of these names? How many Evas, Avas and Eves have you heard of recently? Are these names going to be really common and does it matter? I would prefer a more unusual name generally but until recently I hadn't heard of too many Evas and Avas!

I know Eves aged about 7, Evas and Evelyns aged about 5, and Avas are all aged 2.

It's not your imagination.

I think those names are the height of dull.

I know an Eve, Eva, Ava, Evie, Evelyn and Evangeline...But if you love the name, just go for it!

My 3 year old daughters name is the Irish version of one of these. I too thought it was something a bit different, but she's just started preschool a few months ago. In her class there's her, Ava, Aoibheann, Aoife, Annie, Aimee, Ashlene...
There seems to be a massive popularity for A and E names at the moment! I still love her name though... Smile

I know of one Eve, one Evie and one Ava. I like Eva best if the three.

Go for Eve - best name ever Wink

I know a few but not zillions. They're all popular names but they're not in the Amelia or Isabella sphere of everywhere.

I love Ava and Eva. Quite like Eve too.

Sophronia · 29/06/2015 23:14

They're all very popular, along with Evie and Evelyn.

Nothing wrong with any of these names, but if (as you say in your post) you want something "unusual" then don't choose any of them! They are really popular right now.

My DD is a Evie by nickname; this and Eve are lovely Smile

All of the girls, or so it seems. Ava, Eva, Eve, Evie, Aoife..dull dull dull. I want to meet some little Florences and Christobels!

BikeRunSki · 30/06/2015 00:33

If you want unusual try Sarah or Karen. I know/know of too
Many Eve/Evie/Evelyn/Ava/variants of these to count, mostly under 4.

Report
afink · 30/06/2015 07:19

I know:
4 Evas
2 Avas
2 Eves
1 Evangeline (known as Evie)
1 Evelyn (known as Evie)
4 Evies.

These names are everywhere and all blur into one. It's a shame because they are beautiful names, but they've become as dull as Sarah for our age group because of overuse.

You should come my way Winter, Florence is everywhere!

Out of those names I would go with Eve. Eve by itself isn't even in the top 100 whereas Ava is top 5 and Evie isn't far behind.

ShuShuFontana · 30/06/2015 09:19

it's my fault...I have one who will be 20 this year.

I know at least another half dozen, all younger, and there's even two other variants within our extended family.

Report
TinyManticore · 30/06/2015 09:20

I know one Eve, two Evies.
I don't know anyone called Ava, Evelyn, Avis or Aveline though.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 30/06/2015 09:23

Lots! Nice names but I know quite a few little Eve / Evie. Ava seems to be a newer one with little babies getting that name.

Loads of Florence's here too Winter all under 1 so I think it'll be going up the charts soon

This generations sarah.

Dd (aged 8) one third of girls in her class named a variant of eve. Avoid like the plague!

Report
Snowflakepie · 30/06/2015 09:35

I have one of those, and I still love it. Only one in her year and here I don't know of any younger, think it might have peaked a bit. There are at least 3 others I know in older years at school. It is popular for a reason, my Eve loves her name and is thrilled when she meets another, instant best friends. Use the name you love.

Hasn't peaked here. Have done some volunteering at baby groups and the eve/Evie/Eva's keep coming. These names are full! In the south west anyway

Report
MamaLazarou · 30/06/2015 20:16

You can't move for Evas, Eves and Evies round here (South London). I only know two Avas, though.

We have a Neve. Worth considering.

In DDs very large yr3 year it's the single most popular group of names. Eva, Evie, Ava etc. I do love the name though!

Report
RigglinJigglin · 01/07/2015 13:26

We have an evelyn, but on pain of death does anyone shorten it to Evie.

We had real reservations about using it as we both really detest the potential NN.

Haven't met another one yet Grin although we have a flourish of Ava's and Aoifes.
