Does this work as a first name?

Wikkiwoo Tue 17-Sep-13 12:31:24

I know one Ezra - it suits her beautifully

meditrina Tue 17-Sep-13 12:34:31

It's known internationally as a Biblical boys name. I wouldn't use it on a girl.

picnicbasketcase Tue 17-Sep-13 12:39:00

It's a boys name in my opinion. If I heard someone call a child Ezra I would assume it was a boy.

TheSlug Tue 17-Sep-13 12:40:50

Lovely name but it is a boy's name IMO. I actually think it's really masculine

tallulah Tue 17-Sep-13 12:48:32

No. It's a boys name.

FingersCrossedLegsNot Tue 17-Sep-13 12:55:46

No just no, it's a boys name!

BalloonSlayer Tue 17-Sep-13 13:04:19

Oh for God's sake!

It's a BOY's name.

Would you call her Adam, or Joseph, or Thomas?

Well then.

Kikibee Tue 17-Sep-13 13:05:31

Boys name

tywysogesgymraeg Tue 17-Sep-13 13:09:44

Boy's name. DON'T DO IT

everlong Tue 17-Sep-13 13:11:45

If you'd call a boy Florence or Lily then yes do it hmm

themonsteratemyspacebar Tue 17-Sep-13 13:13:02

I am going to go against the grain here and say i think its a lovely name. I have never heard of it before and i wouldn't say it was a boys name.

Even if most people say it is, i know a female tony, terry and a male shannon. At the end of the day, when they introduced themselves the most i thought was 'oh, thats unusual' then went about my day and never thought about it again.

LeGavrOrf Tue 17-Sep-13 13:13:29

It's clearly a boys name. You may as well call a baby girl Clive or Bernard.

starrystarryknut Tue 17-Sep-13 13:13:49

Don't be ridiculous. It's a boys name. Ezra is an important biblical figure one of the great prophets (not that I'm religious). You might not be religious but what if she grows up and, let's say, falls in love with someone from a culturally religious background - be it Christian, Muslim, or Jew. It would be downright bizarre to any of them, and maybe even enough for them to be hmm. Why saddle her with such an avoidable disadvantage?

roundtable Tue 17-Sep-13 13:14:44

One of my boys is called this. It's a boy's name but I suppose it's up to you.

roundtable Tue 17-Sep-13 13:16:31

Getorf - I wish I could like your post. Dave it a great name for a girl too grin

HangingGardenofBabbysBum Tue 17-Sep-13 13:17:49

Ezra Pound?

TheWholeEnchilada Tue 17-Sep-13 13:18:04

I've got an Ezra...he suits his name beautifully.

Only use this name for your baby if it pops out with a willy.

OutragedFromLeeds Tue 17-Sep-13 13:20:08

It's a lovely BOYS name.

roundtable Tue 17-Sep-13 13:21:26

I've only met one other Ezra, boy obviously. I love the name, but a lot of people think I made it up and have real problems with it!
