Have I gone mad...

I LOVE Daphne and thought I was pretty set on using it for my little girl until I shared it with some of my work colleagues. They're all quite young and the general consensus on Daphne was that it was a cruel thing to do to a child :/ The only other people I've shared it with are my sister and best friend who liked it and now I'm left wondering if the pregnancy hormones have gone to my head and we should find another name.

So what are your honest opinions on Daphne? Do you like it or not? What would you think of a baby named Daphne and if I love it should I just stick with it? I don't want her to grow up hating her name.

Thank you.

It's a bit daft. Sorry.

I don't like it at all.

A good test is to imagine you have that name, imagine using it at various times in your life. If you still love it, use it.

Thank you for your replies. It's reassuring to hear some people do like it :) I guess everyone is going to have different tastes with regards to names - although maybe my colleagues could have been slightly more tactful as I had visions of being labelled a cruel parent for naming my daughter Daphne! I'm going to go have myself a cuppa and a cookie and try to stop worrying about absolutely everything!

I like it, it's pretty and not used too often :)

I don't like it myself. It sounds dated in a Tracy/Sharon way to me... BUT it's not my baby. If you like it, you should ignore your colleagues. I've commented here because you asked for honest opinions. In RL I would keep it to myself and respect that you have different taste in names to me-which is what your colleagues should have done!

Nothing wrong with Daphne. I think of the one in Frasier. Means 'laurel' in Greek.

I suspect it's an MN name; it's easy to say you like it as the name for a stranger's child...

I think it's awful, sorry.

I'm 24 and think it's lovely. But then I like Hermione,Persephone and Antigone as well. Clearly I like the "on-ee" sound!

I think people are silly to share their baby named before the birth. This would prevent these posts. If you love a name, keep it secret, it shouldn't matter what others think. Once the baby is born, people are more likely to keep their opinions to themselves.

I don't think it's cruel to call a child Daphne, it just sounds a bit drippy...

It's one of those names where I can't decide if I love it or think it's awful. There's no middle ground!
If you love it, use it. It's not like it's a made up / weirdly spelled / eh? Inducing name.
