What? None of them? Call him Lesley or Lindsay or Rowan or similar. They can be either.

None at all?

When I was pregnant I too thought all the girl's names were much prettier. We did, eventually, find two names we both liked and I am delighted with our choice. Which girls names do you like?

Keith!!!!!! Or Barry. What's to hate? Wink

Family names? Maiden names in the family that would work as first names?

MarySA · 07/06/2012 21:07

I agree. Go for a family name. Or a traditional one.

There do seem to be more girls names than boys, I don't know if that's true but it felt that way! Give examples of names you don't like and why, or describe the sort of name you want. How many syllables, what do you want it to remind you of - strong, gentle, whatever...

Rather than "Baby SiioCal", there's always "Baby Cal", which could be a nickname for proper names. Though not sure I personally like any of these, being a picky sort. Wink

Calvin - too like Kevin
Caleb - too redneck
Callum - reminds me of Gollum
Callahan - too american...
Calix - is actually a real name but is a bit more unusual than I'm comfortable with...

What girls names do you like? At least that may give us an idea to be able to suggest some similar type.

I like Charlotte violet and Georgia . DH (and DD!) like Charlotte so that will probably be our choice if we have a girl .

I like Jacob but it's gotten really popular . I like Jonah too but DH hates it . And even at that I don't love them they are the best of what I can find .

Dominic
Sebastian
John/Jonny

Ah, so you seem to like Old Testament type names... In the Jonah/Jacob ilk:

Noah
Reuben
Saul
Seth
Adam
Simeon (nn Sim)

I like jonah because it has a family meaning however DH says it sounds made up (he does know its biblical)

I definitely do like biblical names . But they seem to be becoming so popular and my worst nightmare would for dc to have a trend name . DD is the only girl in her school with her name and I'd like that for dc2 too . I'm just far too picky !! Blush

Do you like Charlie, Charles or George?

For more OT stuff - Samuel, Isaac, David, Adam.

hugebumpbelly · 07/06/2012 22:49

Charlie and George and even Samuel are very popular already. Adam and David less so.

Report
SiioCal · 07/06/2012 22:52

David will be his middle name . If it helps DD1 is Phoebe .

Jonah is gorgeous. And Jacob is not as popular nowadays. It was a few years back but not so much now. Your dh will be ok with Jonah once he's seen you go through labour again. Post-labour is a great time to get your own way!

If you call your DD CHarlotte she's not likely to be the only one in school.

I would say it was probably as popualr as Jacob tbh.

If you like Charlotte and Georgia, how about Patrick, Caleb, Ewan, Cameron (brothers of small Charlottes and Georgias I know) or maybe Oliver, Matthew, Lucas, Nathan?

What about some unisex names like Morgan, or Julian/ne, or Alex, or Logan or Charlie?

Report
yellowraincoat · 07/06/2012 23:37

I think the prob is that you're thinking of pretentious names.

Just call your child a normal name like Stephen or Robert or John. They are nice, normal and they won't age horrifically.

How can your DH think Jonah is made up? Surely he has some frame of reference with a Jonah in! Apart from the biblical Jonah and the Whale, there's Jonah Lomu of rugby fame, Jonah J. Jameson from Spiderman, Jonah Hill the actor... If there is family significance, I'd stick with Jonah and tell your DH to get out more!!
