Is Vivienne a horrible name?

Vivian is, or can be, a boy's name. Like in The Young Ones. Vivienne is definitely the female version.

I think the spelling of Vivien is prettier, for some reason - in the same way as I'd prefer Harriet to Harriette, or Annabel to Annabelle, the extra letters on the end are kind of unnecessary in my view.

Vivien makes me think of Vivien Leigh, who was classically beautiful (and admittedly tragic) but Vivienne makes me think of Vivienne Westwood - garish over-done clothes - apologies to any Westwood fans!

Viv puts me in mind of Richardson. I think he was a cricketer.

I never watched young ones or cricket so dont have those associations. Just vivien leigh and a really nice girl at school with the double n.!

Vivian is usually the masculine version, but is sometimes used for women. Vivien is nice, and avoids ambiguity.
Vyvyan is horribly affected (Oscar Wilde's son had that spelling).
Vivienne is unnecessarily Frenchified.

Like others, I think of Vivien Leigh. And 'vivacious' :)

Vivienne is beautiful, especially when pronounced properly. And if anyone sneers at it being affected you could always point out to them that it is actually the oldest / original variation (Latin). I'm less keen on Vivian. And I do not like Viv.

In English (or German) I'd go for Vivian. Simple and obvious how to pronounce.

In French I'd use Vivienne as it would be mispronounced otherwise (without the n).
