DH an I are really struggling to find a name for DS2

I'm due in 5 weeks, but DS1 was 2 weeks early so would like to be prepared a bit earlier, and don't really want to call him 'baby' for too long!

List so far is

Jude
Killian
Raife
Matthew
Ruben
Lewis

Middle name will probably be Gregory

Thanks!

Love Killian but spelt as Cillian.
Don't like Reuben or Lewis. Both quite common here in both senses of the word.

Love Gregory. Like Jude and Matthew.

Love love love Jude

I like Killian and Matthew, prefer Killian. Gregory is great as a middle name.

Jude is a bit too trendy.

In order of preference

Jude Gregory
Matthew Gregory
Ruben Gregory- but spelled Reuben
Cillian Gregory
Lewis Gregory
Raife Gregory- but spelled Rafe

Hmmm... Reuben Gregory or Raife Gregory??
Not so keen on the others.

Jude, Matthew or Lewis.

I'm definitely heading towards Cillian, and yeah that spelling is better! Love Jude but DH doesn't, thinks he'll get called Judy at school

Rueban and Lewis are DH's choices, so I'll show him these responses Grin

Jude Gregory - Not for me, hard to say why, just something about the J and the G isn't quite right. Jude is nice though.
Killian Gregory - I really don't like Killian, I think it'll date badly.
Raife Gregory - I think this'll date too and I think it'll be a pain spelling it to everyone, but I understand the appeal, it's kind of dashing and it goes with Gregory.
Matthew Gregory - Lovely, lovely name. Should have a revival.
Ruben Gregory - Another lovely name, although I prefer Reuben but that's splitting hairs.
Lewis Gregory - I don't think everyone makes the kind of associations with the name Lewis that your other names have. I like the sound it makes, but I'm not sure it says what you meant it to about your DS.

I agree about Lewis, I personally don't like it, but DH wants it because of Lewis Hamilton! And I think ruben is a formula one driver too, but I tend to switch off when he talks about it.

I'm really liking Cillian or Matthew, but probably Matthew is a better bet, an an easier name to live with

Also like Christopher, with nn Kit as DH is a Chris.

There is a driver called Rubens Barrichello yes, but if you were to spell it Reuben hubby wuld still be happy and your son wouldn't be walking round with a blatently F1 name. Wink

Sorry, hit send too early. I totally agree on the Kit thing, I loved it but sadly I can't use it, my partner has an adult son called Chris(topher). I tried it out here to see if I could get away with it, but it was fairly clearly not gonna work.

Interesting list.

Quite eclectic no? Killian and Raife I have never come across, but I know about 20 (literally) boys of 12 or under called Matthew. If popularity puts you off you might like to reconsider. There's one in most classes IME and there were 4 in DS1's year of 60 at his school.

Of your list I like Ruben the best tho I would spell it Reuben. I'm not keen on Jude but that's mainly for literary reasons.

Cillian is Christian in Irish, so if your partner is Chris then it is a nice match. I don't think it will date.

I'm pregnant with a little boy and he will be Rafe/Rafa (Raphael). I love it.

Jude's v popular atm and has started climbing the charts. I know several babies Judes, 50% of them male. Grin

Rubens, that's the one! I did originally suggest ruben (have loved it since I read Cold Comfort Farm), and DH said it was horrendous, until he remembered about Barrichelo (sp)! He's very into naming kids after people he admires, Gregory is the name of the lead singer of his favourite band, and he wanted it as a first name but I vitoed it

I've got loads of names that I love but don't think I could inflict on a baby. I love Sid, Atticus and Diego (awesome name, but I haven't got a drop of latin blood in me!) but don't think I could be that cruel

I bet he comes out now and looks lime a Bob

What is DS1 called? Will it "go" with yr other choices?

Not that that matters for some people, I know a family with two sons, totally regular names James and Oliver, then they called their daughter Honey.

HollyDee · 10/08/2011 22:19

A vote for Matthew from me.

I hope not, that's the name of my cat. A poor hairy faced gingery black baby that'd be. Shock

It's quite sweet that your DH wants to name baby after people he admires, it suggests he's trying to impart something positive in the association. Maybe you could ask him what qualities he would most like to bestow on baby, even by inferance (like courage, or creativity, or winning everything) and then go looking for a name that means that? Miles is a good one on that front, it means a skilled soldier and leader. It was a rank of some honor in the Roman legions. Might he be persuaded?

Clary DS1 is called Toby, so pretty much goes with anything

Saffron not sure that would work, or be a good plan as mostly it's after singers from metal bands... We've been through all the names of members of metallica, slipknot etc. Though Greg is from Bad Religion, but is also a professor at UCLA, so ticks boxes for both of us! We are VERY different, but guess thats why we work!

Bob is a good cat name, we have a Boris

Oooh now Boris is a good name!

I was at college with an Ivan, always rather liked that.
