Honor?

Hi all. Am 36 wks with DC 1 and would love your thoughts on our girls name - Honor. We both love it but I made the mistake of telling my mum who hates it and she told my aunt who said they had a ditty at school about a girl called Honor 'he was Honor and off her all night'. They usually aren't interferring or vocal about their opinions but it's thrown me a bit!

What do you think about Honor? Middle names (DH is insisting on two) are likely to be Isabella Rose or Elizabeth Rose (Rose has to be one of them) and our surname begins with G.

I love the names Isabella and Rose but would rather keep them as middle names as I know she'd get called Izzy or Rosie, which I'm not so keen on (sorry if I offend anyone by saying that).

Thank you!

Gorgeous gorgeous name, it's on my list for the next DC!

Ignore your mum and auntie, tis none of their business.

I think it's a lovely name. Honor Blackman immediately came to mind - probably because that's the only one I know and associate with the name - but she comes across as a classy lady so therefore I like it. Honor Rose has a nice ring to it.

Oh thanks ladies! You've made me cry with your lovely posts (hormones!!). I love Honor Rose together (my aunt Rose is sadly terminally ill so really want to use that name) but didn't want it to sound like 'on a rose' hence adding in another middle name before it. Might be over thinking that though...

Am sure am having a boy after all this though but best to be prepared!

Hi, My dd1 is Honor and I LOVE her name. She is 2.4 and up to yet we have never met or heard of another. I would say go for it. My Honor is a grubby little tom boy but still her name suits her to a t. It is I think a strong name, amongst all the, milly, tilly, Rosie, Evie's....... All lovely but not my kind of thing. Go for it but please don't tell anyone I want it to stay unusual! Wink.

Lovely first name, and both gorgeous options for the middle names.
Try and put the silly comments out of your mind (easier said than done, I know) and go for it Grin

Honor is lovely. Prefer the Elizabeth Rose MN option with Honor - runs together better.

Just be careful that your surname isn't anything that someone could possibly be "on". One of my dad's favourite jokes is to pause halfway through saying the first part of Honor Blackman's name...

I'm quite intrigued about whether you pronounce the H or not?

Lovely, on our shortlist too!

We say it as in 'what an honor' 'yes, your Honor'

Report
goingdownhill · 21/07/2011 19:02

We do the same, exactly as you would say "your Honor" more of an Onner sound.

bagelmonkey · 21/07/2011 19:08

Honor is a beautiful name. I kinda wish we'd thought of it.
