AIBU?

To tell DH I have changed my mind and we have got to move house?

Have namechanged as am mortified enough.

Will try to keep this as short as I can.

It's DH's birthday tomorrow. Like a lot of blokes, he's hard to buy for so what I tend to do is dress up in a "sexy" (in the eye of the beholder!) outfit, and we have a nice night in.

I had a particular outfit in mind and couldn't find one on the website I used last year, so I googled it, found a website with it on, ordered it (and a couple of other things), and paid extra for express delivery as I'd left it a bit late.

The doorbell rang this morning and on the step was my [male] neighbour, with a parcel. He said "I thought I'd drop this round and refund you the postage."

I had no idea what he was talking about, I must have looked totally blank.

He looked puzzled and walked off, but walking away he said "if you need to change anything, that's no problem."

When I opened it, it was my stuff. The return address on the ticket inside is his address, but I have just checked the website and it's not on there.

I am just so fucking mortified. I know loads of people run internet businesses from home and I knew he worked from home but what are the fucking ODDS?

DH and I have been talking about moving house but decided last week not to bother. I want to ring him at work and say I have changed my mind - we are moving NOW.

Sorry but

Seriously, I think you are totally justified in needing wanting to move and I would phone the estate agent now.

Have a good night....

I do feel your pain though.

I think it was quite unprofessional of ur neighbour really, couldn't he realise that you would feel uncomfy about him delivering personally. He should have just stuck it in the post with everything else, and not said anything, doesn't take a genius to work that out. Poor you

Move HOUSE. Girl, you need to move CITY.

That's hilarious!

But the neighbour guy isn't going to think much of it, is he? What's the more socially awkward conversation to have over the garden fence - saying you sometimes buy saucy outfits or saying that you make a living selling saucy outfits? I reckon the neighbour's way beyond embarrassment and this is just bog standard everyday stuff to him.

I am glad you don't think I am over-reacting.

I agree it was unprofessional of him.

The worst bit was the comment about it being OK to change anything. I am a size 12 - a 10 in some shops. The outfit I ordered is a 12 but it looks really small. He must have said that because he was thinking as he packed it up: "ooh, she'll never get into this."

Am going to phone DH I think and ask for the estate agent's number.

I really don't think you can tell your DH. He is not going to like the thought that your neighbour now knows what you are going to be wearing for your hubby.

I think you need to link to what you bought so we can judge how embarrasing it is

Aw, come on. It's very cool. If you leave it even later next year, you can just ring your neighbour's doorbell and pop round to see what he's got in the house.

In his job, you can have no doubts that he's seen weirder and wackier than you can possibly imagine, so I'm sure he thinks whatever you got is pretty tame.

Although you've probably gone up a notch or two in his estimation, I'm guessing.

pmsl and cringing at the same time...

by the way you're not alone, dp tends to get what he wants when it's not his birthday so i usually treat him to a new outfit for me to wear on the night of his birthday... am also a 10/12 and fecking 12 is often tiny, drives me mad!

hugely unprofessional of your neighbour though... i'd be furious

FabBG, too late. And he laughed his bloody head off and said that he had definitely told me that X had started a saucy clothing website and "You didn't go and order it off of there did yer har har har?" He's not the jealous type, or the type to get embarrassed. Wish I was the same .

ShrinkingViolet - no way, I am not even hinting! As I say, I had to google for it, and if anyone does the same I don't want this guy getting swamped with orders from fruity Mumsnetters (not that's what I am accusing you of being of course.)

I am annoyed with the man. I do not wish to increase his business.

Oh, I feel your pain, but.......

is it possible this guy thought he was actually being nice & doing you a favour by not taking your postage money & offering good customer service by offering an exchange policy? He knows he has to be discreet & not broadcast to all and sundry - his business reputation is at stake.

Yes, Laurie, that's exactly what he thinks.

He came out to see me when I was bringing the DCs back from school. (I ushered them in the house ahead of me sharpish.)

He said he was sorry but he had told DH about it in the pub, and "was sure he had told me about it as well." Double .

He said he thought I had ordered from him on purpose.

I said that I had not, and that I felt very uncomfortable with it all, and could he take the whole lot back and refund me.

He walked away backwards holding up his hands and saying that he would give me a full refund but I must keep the goods by way of apology.

Not sure what to do now.

I am not sure I will feel happy knowing 'im nextdoor knows exactly what I am wearing on Saturday night (with the help of a tin of talc as there's no way I am asking him for a 14), free or not.

And I certainly do not want to get tickled by a complimentary vibrator.

Laurie, it is DH who I cannot rely on to " be discreet & not broadcast to all and sundry"

It's is clear he thinks this is all hysterical and was guffawing loud and long on the phone (he works in an open plan office).

ROFL. You got a free vibrator with your order?

Sounds like a great website.

Yes but I do not want it as a gift from my next door neighbour who may well now have his ears on stalks listening for brrrrr-ing noises through the party wall.

He'll have a tough job - DH and I have fallen out now.

rofl - but now i feel for your neighbour who obviously also feels mortified at embarrassing you. He sounds quite a decent bloke.

Your neighbour sounds like a nice bloke. It's sexy underwear fgs.

Lol at him being 'unprofessional' - he's a naughty nicks/vibrator procurer not a lawyer

Is your neighbour single? Perhaps he is just jealous that you are such a fun loving gal, prepared to dress up for you DH. You have definitely gone up in his estimations!
Relax and enjoy the free gifts!

I suppose it is funny really.

And if we get over it I guess we shouldn't move,

I have upset DH a bit - but tis his own fault.

I rang him earlier to update him, when he was still at work.

He kept saying things like: "Then what did he say?" with massive pauses. Eventually I twigged that the line sounded echoey and concluded he had me on speakerphone. He had the whole office listening in and tittering.

The bugger.

So I said, "Oh and he said he couldn't get any more of the extra large butt plugs you wanted, will large do? I said I'd ask you."

Cue temporary sense of humour failure.

So now he is in the pub for the forseeable. Suspect the birthday may be off...

I'd have done exactly the same thing if I were your neighbour - I think it's funny, I couldn't have resisted!

I have had a couple of beers though...
