so, in the past week Fern Britton has been replaced by holly willoughby, arlene philips has been sacked in favour of alesha dixon and jo whiley replaced by fearne cotton. and not so long ago that woman off 10 years younger replaced by mylene klass.

I am outraged - who do they think watches these programmes, and more importantly how much disposable income do they/advertisers think the foetuses from these womens generations have???

Join me ladies in boycotting these programmes and their sponsors/advertisers and sending the message that we aren't disposable when we hit 30!

Gosh, didn't know Jo Whiley was being replaced
Well , Radio 1 is an homage to the moronic
For example take Chris Moyles

Report
smittenkitten · 17/07/2009 19:40

indeed. edith bowman is also being replaced by someone more than 10 years younger than her (albeit a bloke), but chris moyles isn't!

I feel a letter to the BBC coming on...

Fern Britton decided to leave she was`nt sacked

But you are right about being sidelined

DarrellRivers · 17/07/2009 19:41

Oh and I quite like Edith
Looks like a lot more Radio 2 listening

smittenkitten · 17/07/2009 19:44

yes NIfty, but they replaced her with a 12 year old, showing a certain contempt for their viewing base

Greg James is a child
Yes double standards re Edith Bowman and Chris Moyles
They are the same age, but he is just crass

CowWatcher · 17/07/2009 19:48

Chris Moyles, for example is a twat.

CowWatcher · 17/07/2009 19:49

Agree about all that Smitten. Arlene in particular. Did you hear her talking about this very thing on Desert Island Discs? What a shame.

Report
DarrellRivers · 17/07/2009 19:51

Chris Moyles is most definitely a twat (and I never swear)

DebiNewberry · 17/07/2009 19:51

well tbh i don't really think r1 is the right place for jo whiley

or that MNetters are the target audience for Chris Moyles.

but agree with the Arlene/Alesha and the 10 years younger woman. Doesn't work with nicey nicey klass

No Chris Moyles would have been a twat when I was in my 20s too

It's not an age then, it's a character thing
Why does something hip have to be crass?
It doesn't follow

I'm happy to boycott since I watch / listen to precisely none of these programmes

But yes, I agree with your proposition that it is offensive and unnecessary

Report
Noonki · 17/07/2009 20:00

I'm with hmc -life is too short for daytime tv!

Report
DebiNewberry · 17/07/2009 20:12

my post doesn't say anything about age darrell - I think a fair few MNetters are in their 20s... I was talking about values, beliefs, not age.

I agree with you on Moyles. Not sure that anybody beyond his core listeners think that he is 'hip' though - not that they would say hip! Just awful.

Point taken
But it would seem the Radio 1 is worried about attracting too old an audience which I find entertaining, it is worried about missing its core demographic of 15-29 year olds

I'm easily pleased on the radio front, my main objective is no adverts
And yes, haven't watched This Morning since I was a student

I listen to Chris Moyles

He is a twat, but can be quite funny.

Fearne Cotton drives me bonkers but I am not ready to go to radio two yet!

I always switch Jo Whiley off as I find her dull and cringe-worthy, sidling up to bands pretending she's cool.

But at least she doesn't come across as a blank-faced half-wit like Fern Cotton (not that you can see her face on the radio but you know what I mean.)

Yes, Moyles is a twat but he can be amusing.

The breakfast news is a case in point. Look at the vast difference in age and looks between male and female presenters. Also, Moira Stewart has been sidelined despite being a talented presenter.
Agree with comments re. gimp Chris Moyles. His comments regarding gay people and women are pretty dire IMO.
I am glad they got rid of Nicky Hambleton-Jones however. She has the look of an over-preened emotionless zombie. Mylene should not have replaced her though. She's bloody everywhere at the mo!

I hated Jo Whiley and Edith - I am their target demographic (age 24) and I heart Fearne.

Gutted about Holly Willoughby she is like a piece of cardboard.

jinja · 18/07/2009 22:23

Erm, I actually find Moyles quite amusing. They're constantly joking about his age, because they know that even he doesn't fit their demographic any more. I don't listen often though, so maybe that's why. You're right though, if he was a woman he'd probably be long gone by now.

Jo Whiley is so annoying. "OOooh, I'm so coooool. Look at me, I've got a gazillion kids, but I still go to festivals and I hear about all the new bands before you. So ner" Gah - can't stand the woman! She is SO up her own rear end. I don't care how old she is, I'll be glad to see the back of her.

I think all of Radio 1 female presenters are shiteola.Whiley is dullsville and the scot one...arghhh!.

Moyles is amusing at times, although more often than not he just pisses me off and needs to wind his fat neck in.

I like Scott Mills,he often cracks me up .
