AIBU?

to have a very messy car which is used as a general dumping ground?

Now I am very tidy in the house but my car is squallid. DP got in it last night and said 'Christ GetOrf, this is like a builder's van'. And it is. I looked at it this morning and I have four empty drinks bottles, a coffee cup, a Sunday Times from 3 weeks ago, 3 pairs of shoes, 2 suit jackets, a book, 2 tennis rackets, a bag of maltesers (these were hidden under the seat, an unexpected treat) and about 10 cd cases in the footwell. There are also about a dozen old parking tickets on the dashboard.

DP can't believe I drive round a car which is such a tip. He says that I am a hypocrite for nagging him about putting orange juice back in the fridge when my car is such a state.

I don't care. I tidy everything else I can't be arsed to clean out my bloody car

YANBU - I have always had a messy car, the only drawback is having to throw everything very quickly into the back seat before I can offer another adult an impromptu lift.
Always make sure you have a toddler who you can blame for leaving rotting food items down the back of the seat or in the door pockets

Lol, my car was broken into about 5 yrs ago and they took a few CD's, nothing more. My car was already in a right state, wrappers, papers etc and when the SOCO came he took one look and said Oh they have made a mess haven't they? Lots of surface for prints

I then had to own up to save him from lots of unnecessary work.

Mine only gets cleaned out when its going for a service and they chuck in a valet for free.

I can barely keep the house clean.

Do you not have a shopping bag to put in your car for the rubbish and a weekly 5 mins to bring the stuff back into your house ???

Yay it's not just me.

I know I should just bring the stuff back in of an evening but I just don't think about it. I sometimes bribe pay ask dd t o clean it out for me when I notice that it is getting too bad

Is a bit weird though, there is no way I would put up with that mess in the house, if DP brings any crap in from his car and dumps it in the hallway I screech bloosy murder. But my car looks like a teenager owns it

Yes YABU.

My DP treated his car like that. Often i'd get in and be sitting on something indescribable. It was like a skip on wheels. I'm sure he wouldn't have known if he was housing refugees in there.

He has been using my car and I told him in no uncertain terms is he to treat my car that way.

A few days ago he purchased a car for himself, within a week it will be filthy. whilst mine will be smelling and looking glorious

Ladies are clean and tidy and not builder like

Oh shinyshoes don't come here with your tidy car stories! I want this to be one of those AIBUs where everyone agrees with the OP!

Actually, have just remembered that I cleaned it out very thoroughly (used dashboard polish and everything!) when I took my MIL and FIL out for the day, I think they would have disowned me as a DIL if they saw the car's (un)natural state.

My car is awful too and I would never put up with that sort of mess in the house. Mess in the car though somehow doesn't bother me, until I have to give someone a lift! Full of mud and dog hairs, empty wrappers and drink bottles, cd cases, sticks, leaves and other treasures the kids have left in there. I dread removing the car seats as I'm scared what I might find lurking underneath!!!

Mine is a skip on wheels. CD cases, water bottles, maps, empty mint packets, toy cars, strewn all over the floor.

Boot full of coats, pushchairs, shopping bags.

Dog snot all over the rear windows.

It is only washed once a year when it has a service. I can barely keep the house tidy, so I'm not going to waste time on a car.

My car looks like a tramp lives in it. Luckily it's only me and the DCs who ever see it.

My excuse is that when I get out of it, I have two children to get out and into the house, and no spare hands to carry banana skins/drink cartons/random paintings of 'a buffalo, Mummy' from nursery. Really, though, I'm just an utter slut.

My car is so old the rubbish in it holds it together.

My car (which my mum refers to as 'the flying slum) currently contains:

melted toffees in both the front and passenger door wells

a dried out banana skin under the drivers seat

15000 old parking tickets, with dog hair stuck on the sticky bits

assorted toys

sweet wrappers

a couple of mouldy apple cores

6 empty water bottles

2 ripped a - z's with pages missing

dog snot and mud all over the boot

It also stinks and is covered in sandwich crumbs because I let my youngest dc eat his lunch in it on our way to walk the dog.

I think we need a support group for car slobs. It's done me a power of good reading these posts. I was starting to think I was the only one with a really squalid car.

I am very pleased that I am not the only car slut.

Bloody DP complaining about it though, the cheeky so and so. He is a builder, his car and van are truly squallid. Why do they get special dispensation?

I haven't even thought about what is in the boot, though. Probably full of crap

Fox poo

Dog sweat

Spilled milk

DH bought a watermelon air freshener for the car last week.

All it does is add a surreal top-note to the vile olafactory stew.....

Fox poo?? Ewww!! You poor thing! I love that other people have cars as bad as mine though, I maintain that I have far better things to do with my time than tidy out a car. And plus all the random baby stuff in the car (clothes, toys etc) comes in very useful at times!
