I think of it as the PMT board, where you can have a slanging match in a safe environment.

i think that people on the AIBU board should only be allowed to sympathise and agree with you. and also to bitch about your issue too!!! i hate being told im being unreasonable lol.

lol @ Janni. Should certainly be re-named the PMT board grin

It is often a disingenuous question I think. Much more sensible to rename INAR (© Hecate) I need a rant is often what it is.

However in general if you ask the question AIBU then you will get answered, in the beautifully blunt style of mn.

Interesting a great ABIU thread is when the OP realised she was BU and changes her mind.

Janni Fri 05-Sep-08 00:06:22

Definitely agree on the need for an INAR board. I sometimes start threads inviting people to just come and offload because that's what I need a lot of the time. Don't need advice, don't need telling off, just need to let off steam.

northernrefugee39 Fri 05-Sep-08 07:51:41

Absolutely- the rant thread would be a fab.

The beauty of it is that people do mostly realise that they are being unreasonable and are ranting, and if they aren't, there have been some brill ones- like the potty in the restaurant or even better which I can't think of, which are worth the fun of eye rolling.

fedupandisolated Fri 05-Sep-08 07:54:42

yabu grin I love it as there are some fantastically funny threads in there.
Agree that there are also some which get nasty though.

Lomond Fri 05-Sep-08 07:58:42

YUBU! I love it lol.

hecate Fri 05-Sep-08 08:43:21

Yes, we REALLY need a topic where we can offload and it is very clear that we are not actually asking for honest opinions, just a listening ear and a bit of tea and sympathy.

Of course, we could always say that in the thread title or OP! grin But the benefit of having a separate topic is that all those people who come on such kind of threads to stir it up or moan or bitch, can just hide the entire topic and then nothing posted under it will ever appear in their active convos and they can just piss right off and they won't ever read them.

hecate Fri 05-Sep-08 08:50:51

I tell you what I really hate though. The STUPID AIBUs.

AIBU to think that it is a good idea to eat fruit

AIBU to think that it is not nice to call someone names

AIBU to think that the rain in spain falls mainly on the plain

AIBU to think that the sun is 93 million miles from the earth

The AIBU where the op is not in any doubt, is not asking a question, but is so obviously correct that the only possible reply is YANBU and they are not posting to get opinions, or even to have a rant, but to, well, fuck knows, but it's annoying.

wessexgirl Fri 05-Sep-08 08:53:59

Yes, Hecate, I was trying to formulate a post expressing that thought but you did it for me, better than I could have done. I don't like it being used as an extension of chat either.

I do rather love threads like the potty in the restaurant and the supersoaker at the party though.

hecate Fri 05-Sep-08 08:55:46

I'm glad it's not just me grin

AMumInScotland Fri 05-Sep-08 09:03:58

Oh we have to keep AIBU - when it pisses me off, I can hide it! If we didn't have it, people would be posting AIBUs in Chat and everywhere else. At least this way we can quarantine them in a corner and pour dettol over them. grin

the supersoaker one made me wee a bit it was so so funny.

there was another one recently where the op ws similarly stubborn..[can't remember]

CaptainUnderpants Fri 05-Sep-08 09:34:10

The supersoaker party one was a classic.

I do agree also that we need a 'rant one' ! so no one can disagree with you just give you tea and sympathy ! smile

squilly Fri 05-Sep-08 12:51:44

I love AIBU. I hate it when people contradict my point of view though. Then I want to flounce, but find myself feeling that would be childish. Having said that, I have ignored a few threads where people have been a bit down my throat rather than keep ping ponging with someone I'd quite clearly ignore in Real Life.

I only look at a few threads on Mumsnet tbh. AIBU is one of them. I'd be lost without it!

So yes, you're being VERY U.

Stop it at once!

DaddyJ Fri 05-Sep-08 12:55:55

You should see some of the threads in the News section..fecking nutters! grin

I come to Aibu for well-earned rest and relaxation.

VinegarTits Fri 05-Sep-08 13:28:55

You need to have a think skin to post on it, and be prepared to be told YABU, and not get arsey when you get told you are!

I love it, but i am evil

Monkeytrousers Fri 05-Sep-08 16:43:55

Oh, if I can get away with it, I will post my most controversial threads here then - all the ones about political correctness and feminist views of religion if we can all have a slanging match in a safe environment grin.

Blu Fri 05-Sep-08 16:50:45

MT...I suspect that the AIBU board is a retro step in the forward march (sic) of feminism as it panders to the notion that women can scweam and scweam until until they feel sick and it is a laydees perogative.

AMumInScotland Fri 05-Sep-08 16:50:56

I'd much rather you put the feminst theology over in religion etc - if I'm hiding AIBU I won't be able to join in otherwise grin

But put political correctness wherever you like grin
