to be pissed off with Tesco

for not getting my home delivery order correct again. A whole chunk of my shopping list (18 items) is missing in all. I had an annoying discussion with the driver that went like this: DRIVER - err, i think some of this order is missing ME - too right it is, any idea whats happened to it? DRIVER - err no ME - right, what happens now then? DRIVER - err I will look on my lorry again ME - ok thanks. The driver then jumps in the van and buggers off!!!

Anyway, I call Tesco and ask them where my shopping is. They tell me they will make a call to my local store and then stick me on hold for ages. She eventually comes back and says we think the rest of your shopping has been put on another van. She then offers to refund the goods but I NEED THEM, hence the reason I ordered them in the first place so then she tells me that someone will call me later today to tell me when they can deliver them.

So basically i've paid £5.99 for an incomplete order and a delivery slot that has gone from 2 hours to god knows how long and I've had to pay to speak to someone on the phone and to listen to sodding music whilst on hold. Not to mention having to deal with a twat in a van!

I also want to add that often the odd item is missing from my orders but I can cope with that. Each time that happened I had to call the helpline so I reckon that the cost of calls made to them should amount to a free weeks worth of shopping.

To add insult to injury, I have NO bread and am craving scrambled eggs on toast.

I wouldn't worry, u will eventually get your things and probably a big discount voucher for next time. Poor response from driver though.
Good luck!

I switched to Ocado... if they cover your area, try them. Not more expensive on most things.

YANBU - Can you be firm , ring them tell them the amount it costs for delivery, tell them you want that refunded for a start. Then tell them you want the items TODAY or else you want a refund and some sort of sweetner as the goods (all of them ) werent delivered in the time slot that was agreed. also tell them you need to go out and can't wait for them to stop faffing around.

Then tell them you are going to go to ASDA in future

we too use ocado who are price matching tesco for a lot of branded goods. also if there are more than a couple of things mising / damaged ocado will refund the delivery cost as well - i had a bottle of laundry conditioner that had leaked into a bag of chocolate and 2 of the chocolate bars were damaged so they said to be on the safe side refund all the chocolate, the conditioner (about 3 spoonfuls had leaked which i told them) and the delivery cost.

and it's only an hour slots and you can now pick on the hour or on the half hour slots - god i should be an advert for them

They have just called and asked me to tell them again what's missing!!! ARGH for fucks sake!! They said they've got to go and pick the items again as they found the 'missing' box with my stuff in but now they've lost it again. Are they all brain dead?

I've asked for a refund on the delivery charge so was put on hold whilst she went to find a team leader. So, after being on hold for another 10 mintues she tells me that the team leader has also gone missing and someone else will call me back. God, they're right comedians aren't they!!!!

We havent got an ASDA. I wish we had though. I might try Ocado instead next time!! Tesco truely are shite!!!

Flick - Ocado it is in future then. Are their fruit and veg more expensive? I'm eating mega amounts of veg and fruit in a bid to be super duper healthy as I'm pregnant with twins. I'm spending a fortune!!!

Write to them. Those sort of places hate having things in writing. You might get a week's worth of shopping out of them if you enumerate ALL the problems you have ever had with them.

DH is very good at this sort of thing. He once got £50 out of Barclaycard!

I have decided this week to stop using Ocado because the food they send me is so near the use by date. I had a delivery on 30th July and over half the veg had to be used by 1st August . I used to use Sainsburys and they were good.

Hello Flick!

Can you not complain about that monkeysmama? That sounds out of order tbh.

Report
thefortbuilder · 12/08/2008 14:23

hi mm - you can complain about that although i have stopped buying spinach and green beans from them because they seem to go off so quickly.

i had a load of croissants at christmas that had only a couple of days on them and i ended up getting refunded for it

i don't think theyre actually supposed to sell stuff that is out of date the next day, unless it's reduced

we buy all our fruit and veg at the bonneville farmers market - mm you should come - it's on a sunday and is excellent!

I ahven't used tesco for ages. The last time I sued them they sent the order round in green boxes - despite me asking every time for it to be delivered in bags. Uncooked chicken was in a box with ham, bread etc. Eggs were broken and squashed under bottles. There was also lollipop sticks, the lolly had been eaten and they were thrown in teh box, as though a picker ahd been eating one and thrown it into the box box when finished, there were about 3 half sucked lollies and chewed chewing gum as well.
I am still waiting after all this time for an apology.
Then of course there was the shortbread incident

Don't forget my thread from a couple of weeks ago about silsbf being a Tesco Driver and they eat virtually for free as he brings home all the stuff the customers don't want.
Which, as it will either be theft by him, or put down as wastage, is paid for by all you Tesco customers indirectly.

We have no drive, 2 small children and we don't do online shopping. Tesco is expensive, having it delivered costs money, you have to wait in for it to be delivered and spend time odering it online.

Quicker and cheaper to go get it yourself from Lidl I reckon

saltire i have missed the shortbread incident and yes FJ i remember that thread. we don't have a lidl close to us and apart from that i have two young uns and don't drive - so it's either go to tesco in the mornings (which i do sometimes do when i get annoyed with ocado!) or do big stuff on ocado and rest of fresh stuff at farmers market.

saying that about ocado i got a shop last thursday and the chicken had 7 days left on it!!! although chicken seems to be ridiculously expensive there these days, but i do refuse to buy tesco cheap cr*p chickens that have had a horrid life!

going to the shop in person is so much easier, means you get exactly what you want. AND it's cheaper!

Yes please, I've divulged all about my tea-leaf silbf so you must spill about the shortbread.

Although, we are on mumsnet so would presume one makes ones own?

Call the central people - or email - you will certainly get the delivery charge refunded and quite likely a load of clubcard points as an apology.

The Shrotbread Incident - It was Burns night so I ordered Haggis, Neeps and tatties to ahve a Burns supper (TBH I was surprised to get Haggis this far south). Anyway the order arrived and they said they had subsituted the haggis - with shortbread.
When i called up to complain, the reasoning behind it was "they are both Scottish", so obviously sending someone a box of shortie with a tartan lid was a recommended subsitute for haggis!

I think I've found a great balance between virtual and real shopping. I do a monthly internet shop, for all the dull stuff - tins, jars, dry stuff, drinks, loo roll, cleaning products, cat food etc. We then get a veg box from local farm and DH does a quick weekly shop for milk, yoghurts, sandwich fillings, fruit and any other fresh stuff. That way the stuff that I order online is all stuff that doesn't need a lot of thought/decisions from the picker, by doing it once a month we spend enough to fall into the cheaper delivery cost (and only paying for delivery once a month), DH only has a short shop to do (he takes DD who is great on a short trip, but gets bored otherwise), and by going into the store in person he gets to poke through the "reduced to clear" sections which is where most of our meat and fish come from

i have tried tesco, asda, sainsbury's and ocado. all but asda sent me stuff out of date within the next couple of days so we stuck with asda. and it's free delivery over £50.

That's about the shortbread!!

When I first used Tesco online, years ago, they didn't have a way of specifying quantities of fruit & veg, other than 1,2,3... (no units of weight even). So I used to add a note to fruit & veg saying "1 lb carrots please" etc. First time it worked fine. Second time, the picker ignored the notes and gave me a straight kilo of everything. OK, 1kg of carrots, instead of a pound, I could cope with that. But WTF did they think I wanted with a kilo of root ginger!! I rang and had a very lengthy phone call to explain that NO you couldn't specify weights other than using notes (and had to point out to the phone woman that even if the box did let you type decimals in instead of just picking numbers from a list, if I wanted half a kilo I would type 0.5 not 0.25) and all I got for my trouble was some tesco points . They did update the system though

"having it delivered costs money" I rarely pay the delivery charge by using a money off coupon. As for it taking time ordering it online, it takes far longer to go to the supermarket, traipse round with the trolley, unload it, pay, load it back etc etc. My internet shop takes around 15 mins max.

Waiting in isn't a problem as there is always stuff to be done or I order it to arrive in the evening when I'll be in anyway.

The order I made last night arrived this morning, Sensible substitutions although one I didn't want so returned. All in bags as requested, driver took my old bags away (but sadly refused to take my bickering children when I asked him to

The service improved HUGELY when they moved the online shop from the main store to a separate dedicated warehouse. Rarely have substitutions and the dates are usually appropriate.
