My 6 day old baby had been in hospital for 3 days due to having jaundice.
Recommended count in blood is below 210, my daughter was 314. She’s had around 5/6 6 hour sessions of phototherapy (on a blanket only) and it’s gone from
314 to 260 to 241 to 291
So basically she rebound and it climbed back up. So they’ve put a light on top as well as on bottom.
They’ll be taking her off at 5am and checking her blood levels.
I’m not even with her due to baby being a twin so her 6 day old sister is at home still and my 19 month old daughter is suffering from serration anxiety (from me and her dad)
So my dh has been with her for 2 nights.
Why I posted on here was to find out if anyone else been through this with their little ones. And what result should I expect?? Thank you

Then that’s about 6 hours and at least you’ll know what you’re dealing with - numbers down and great, numbers up and they can hatch a plan. If there’s a plan at least you know what’s happening; not knowing is always the worst. Flowers

A rocky start - but please get some rest between now and 9am! She will be ok. Between you, your husband and the hospital, everything will be ok. x

Sorry you're going through this. My DS was admitted at 5 weeks and it was really tough. No twin at home either so I can only imagine how worried and exhausted you must be. Try and rest though, you need to refuel before tomorrow

Is she feeding ok? I was readmitted with one twin as she had lost too much weight and was jaundiced. She went under the light and i felt it was best to switch to formula. She quickly recovered and we were home after days later. They let me have both twins in by the way. Worth checking?

Both my babies had jaundice which took a while to clear. DD1 was in hospital and had phototherapy. With both it improved and they're fine now. Are you bf? Apparently it's very common with bf babies for jaundice to take a while to clear.

I was mix feeding but will only be formula feeding till it clears up.
I’m just wondering why it’s gone up instead of down.
She’s off the light now and they just waiting for the injection.
I don’t want her sister there as well to be honest. Like this all babies are getting the attention they need.
Thanks for all your lovely messages

OP you will get thru and it will be a memory soon. Just focus on that, it'll be in the past soon.

My DTs were kept in for 2w but in different units so I had to choose which to be with at any time. Then 3yo DD1 got chicken pox so neither she nor DH could visit.

Twins are now 18mos and it all seems so long ago although I found it so tough at the time.

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff how come you were kept in for long?
I’m Glad it’s just a memory away now. Hospital have been great. just the delays between treatment, tests and results have been getting to me :(

It must be really worrying. It is not uncommon for this to happen though.

One quick one re feeding - if you are alone w her and solely formula feeding, just keep an eye on establishing breast feeding w the other baby as well? You might hit supply as well as the other baby’s latch etc. Don’t want you to inadvertently set up another problem while you are dealing w this one!

My daughter wasn't a twin but was 5 weeks early with low blood sugars and a poor suck reflex. After about 36 hours she had to go to SCBU for a feeding tube as we weren't getting on top of the blood sugar problem. The tube did the trick and we cracked breastfeeding shortly afterwards. However, predictably she then developed jaundice as a result of the poor feeding early on. Her results went up and down for a few days, then it all sorted itself out. For those few days we were all over the place. On one lamp, on two lamps on no lamp. It was frustrating but we got there in the end.

I hope your baby is better soon and you can all be reunited. This sounds very difficult for all of you. Sad I know this isn’t why you came on her, just wondering why are you formula feeding and not mixed whilst in hospital. I also thought on reading your post not feeding would potentially affect supply and both babies willingness to breastfeed. Sorry not wanting to add to your load.

Please don’t worry about breastfeeding OP. Flowers to you.

My youngest had jaundice too and was in a lit incubator for 3 days. She was in there constantly, only came out to feed (although I sneaked a few cuddles when no one was watching!). It was so tough, I had two older ones who stayed at home with their dad while I stayed with the baby so I can't imagine how hard it must be for you to have to leave one of your twins. 3 days did it for us and we were discharged, so I hope you get good news of her levels later. Very very stressful time but a distant memory now.

My little niece and nephew both had jaundice when born, my niece they didnt know until after she had been at home for a few days and she was taken back in for a week. She needed one night in scbu under the lights full time and then a few days under lights at the bedside. She got better so quickly and is now a thriving and cheeky 4 year old. It was so difficult for my SIL seeing her with the little goggles on and she couldn't pick her up but honestly after about a week she was absolutely right as rain (and was a very easy baby!). Try and get some sleep and look after yourself, it wont be long until shes home Flowers

It's very hard having a child in hospital. My 11 year old was in for 10 days earlier this year and that was very stressful. It must be so much worse for you recovering from childbirth with 2 other little ones to worry about.
Just try to take one day at a time. This too will pass and you'll soon be home enjoying your news babies.

This is quite a common occurrence in our maternity unit.

I hope you’ve had some good news this morning OP. My DS was in with Jaundice for a few nights, but like another poster he was in a lit incubator, first with it in half strength, then full strength when his levels weren’t coming down. He had to stay in it at all times though, only coming out for feeds and nappy changes. I wonder why they’re doing it in blocks of light treatment.
