Hi everyone.
We have sky entertainment bundle (no kids, sports, movies)
Multi room ( 2 boxes altogether)
HD
Box sets
Broadband
Line rental- however we don’t even have a house phone.

Our bill has just gone up to £62. Is this about right? I called last night to see if there was anything they could do but they couldn’t budge on price- I even said to cancel it and they still couldn’t come up with anything!

I have what you have with Sky Q and it's £77!

When we switched to Virgin they kept me on the phone for half an hour tempting me with a price drop and a Q box. Still went ahead with Virgin.

We had Sky for years. DP has had it even longer (before we were together). Every year he 'does the dance' where he calls to say he wants it cheaper and they come back with a (shit) offer, he says no, they come back with another shit offer, he says he will cancel, blah blah. This goes on for a couple of weeks. Then they give him what he wants.
But he did the same recently and they refused to budge. We ended up cancelling. We don't miss it either!
Actually, I say we have cancelled, we have kept the ability to record stuff and have kept broadband. But that is it.

We were paying about £75 I think for Broadband, HD, Line rental, and quite a lot of TV access (inc Sports).

Not even the DC miss it. We all stick to terrestrial TV and Netflix.

Wasn’t with Sky but we had had Virgin Media for years. Ended up paying £70 a month and fine, if that’s what stuff costs BUT last year I got a Fire stick for my birthday and it was so good we got another for our bedroom.... and ended up just not using the TV services anymore.

When I knew our contract was ending I called them and explained and said I just wanted the broadband now and how much would that be- for unlimited fibre optic I was told it would still be £45!!!!! Ended up moving to Talk Talk (which Virgin told me I would bitterly regret as it’s not as speedy a service) and now pay £17.99 for their unlimited Fibre Broadband which will go up to £22.99 after a year. Haven’t regretted it so far in terms of speed and don’t miss the TV service at all. Can watch Freeview via the Fire stick and have access to iPlayer, All4 etc. Can’t recommend getting rid enough and happy to save myself £50 a month!

I'm on Virgin rather than Sky, we have two Tivo boxes, both with all the TV channels including Sports and Movies, unlimited landline calls and 350Mbps broadband. It costs a bloody fortune, around £130 a month. But we can't get the BB speed we need anywhere else, and I doubt it would work out much cheaper staying with Virgin for Internet only and going with Sky for the TV. We considered dropping channels at one point, but now F1 is exclusively on Sky so no can do.

For those of you with Sky TV purely for certain sport coverage it might be worth seeing if it's cheaper to watch it via Now TV. My husband just pays for a pass when the rugby or whatever is on Sky. Saves us a fortune.

Recently changed to virgin. With sky we had 2 boxes.. One a recordable one just normal (multi-room), one of basic packages, line rental and Internet and it was approx 48 a month.

Changed to virgin, 2 boxes both recordable, middle package with sports and the boxsets, line rental and Internet. And its 54 a month.

IMO virgin is waaaayyyyyyy better than sky.

I pay £74 for one HD box, broadband and line rental, sports package, no films, no kids stuff. No idea if it includes box sets. Based on that what you have sounds about right.

Frazzlerock that's what I've found this time
Round. They won't budge!
How did you keep the ability to record stuff? I'm happy to ditch Sky as we can get sports on Now TV but I don't want to lose the ability to record.

I have the same as you plus some add ons.

And unlimited broadband.

How did you keep the ability to record stuff?

It’s called ‘sky+ Features’
It’s basically freeview but you pay for the privilege of keeping the sky+ features (so pause/record etc)
It’s £10 a month.

Basic sky package. £20 per month.
I should probably get rid of it but my DH likes Sky Atlantic and £20 isn’t breaking the bank.

Interesting, I will look into this. I don't watch anything other than sport, so when BT sport and box office events are added in it costs a fortune! Can't get Eurosport on Now TV though, which is an issue. Can you record on Now TV?

We are paying £90 (plus £12/month sky protect insurance) for the basic sky entertainment package - no sports, movies, kids stuff, or sky q. No multiroom. We do have line rental and broadband. Def getting screwed over then, best get on the phone.

Thanks OP - was unaware what everyone else is paying 😳

SkyQ, multi room, HD and box sets. No movies or sports. BB and phone plus calls (we have no mobile signal,).
It's just gone up from £75 to £82. I'm on contract until July when I'll ring up.
Prior to last year we just paid up and never questioned it. When I rang for the first time to renegotiate they threw SkyQ in and cut the price.

Bloody hell!! We’re paying £100 a month for sky Q with sports, kids, box sets and nextflix with broadband (which is shit) and two minis (but that’s a one off payment of £100 per box Shock )

Think we might need to look into this! Grin

OhWifey · 04/04/2019 13:13

This is all very interesting.

If we quit Sky and just kept the ability to record at £10/month, added on NowTV broadband at £18 Inc phone calls we could only be paying £28/month. Adding sky sports every single month would take it to £61. Currently pay about £85. Hmm

Apparently we have the fibre broadband but still think we’re being screwed. Account in DH’s name so they’ll probably only discuss it with him, but will be in his case to get on the phone. Thank you x
