To take dd 4 to see the new dumbo film??

I was planning to do this on Sunday as part of a day out.
Whilst trying to book the tickets I saw it was a PG not a U.
My work colleague said it's supposed to be quite scary.
Anyone seen it yet?? Would PG (which is only parental guidance) be suitable for a 4yo?

I personally wouldn't take a 4yo to see a PG at the cinema.

It will show the cruelties of circus life for the animals I presume. The live actions are always darker than the originals. They're aimed at an older audience. I'm not going purely because I can't watch baby mine in cgi 🙈

My daughter was utterly traumatised by the Disney cartoon version of Dumbo at the same age. She sobbed and wailed so much when he was separated from his mother that I had to turn it off and we never attempted it again!

It’s educational, many don’t understand the realities that face not just circus animals but any animals used as ‘tourist attractions’, including elephant for rides and baths and so on.

Saying that, as a woman in her 30s who has spent years volunteering with rescued working elephants, I definitely couldn’t sit through Dumbo.

I took ds 3 to see the new Jurassic World, new Beauty and the Beast and The Meg!!
Loved them all!!

Dd 6 loves jurassic park films which makes me think maybe she can cope with lion king

Margot so was I and I watched it as an adult....it's horrific!!! It will be a cold day in hell before I watch any version of Dumbo ever again

I reslly want to see it (have a friend in it!) But won't take DS (5) as he's a real empath, very sensitive to things like death of a parent, animals being hurt... 'scary' stuff is generally OK but not emotional stuff

I actually hate films like The Lion King and Dumbo because of the parental death issues. The Lion King scarred me for life maybe years ago and my dad died shortly afterwards. Baby Mine also used to kill me. No intention of watching either!!

Ive just booked hey dougie, thinking it was a film.. it is not.. I've just booked (and payed) for us to watch 1.4 hours of standard hey dougie shows on the big screen 😩

Same here - when my DD was 6. She doesn’t fancy the new film now she’s 10....

I was taken to see the original film age 3. I found it deeply upsetting and wouldn't have anything to do with it or any remake. And that was over 50 years ago.

I can't bear the original Dumbo, it is such an upsetting film for many reasons. My dc know we won't be going to the remake, as I've always been clear about my feelings! I'm assuming all the racism will have been removed from the new film - that alone is absolutely shocking in the original.

Dumbo was the first film I saw at the cinema. I cried so much (when dumbo's mum is locked up, put puts her trunk through the bars to rock him) that I was sick everywhere and it was another 10 years before my parents took me to the cinema again!

Dh plans to take small dds to see the new dumbo at the weekend and I've said it's a bad idea!
