AIBU?

Who should have backed up? With diagram.

It's B's right of way but the gap is RIGHT next to them.

A has to reverse back round a windy (badly drawn) road with loads of kids and cars around.

B was shouting all sorts at A after A appeared mildly incredulous that B wasn't reversing. B's wife was frothing that A was incredulous. A was fucking incredulous.

Is A the unreasonable one?

I already think I know true answer to this.

I'd say B should have reversed to let A into the gap.

In common sense B should have gone into the gap. Assuming that A couldn't see B when she started going around the parked cars.

B should have reversed
A should have sat there until he did

please tell me you sat there

B should have realised it would be easier on both parties to reverse into the gap

Neither of them could see one another until that very point. It's a pain but usually everyone is fair with who needs to reverse. I've never experienced such hatred about reversing (or not reversing as the case may be).

I sat there for a while...

B should have reversed to let A go in the gap and then b could have driven on.

B was a complete arsehole if they stuck to technicality instead of just BUDGING.

Report
malmi · 20/03/2019 19:48

I think this happens when someone literally doesn't have the skills to reverse with any confidence so they transform their shame into anger.

Report
ColeHawlins · 20/03/2019 19:48

That is so very true @malmi .

GimmeBread · 20/03/2019 19:49

Some people really are arseholes aren't they? Yes technically A should have reversed but common sense should have prevailed and B should have backed up.

What a dick. This is one of the rare things that really gets me all ragey!

Strictly speaking it's B right of way but B should been courteous and reversed to allow A to pull into the gap
Was there any cars behind A or B ?

Report
Purplejay · 20/03/2019 19:57

B should have reversed to let A go into the gap.

Report
LIZS · 20/03/2019 19:57

Technically A but in the real world B should have gone back to allow A to pull into the gap. Cars should not park around the bend though, if it blcks 2 way traffic, it is asking for an accident.

Was B driving a very large shiny 4 x4 which he cleans at least once a week? If so, he’s a twat with shit driving skills and clearly wasn’t confident to reverse into a nearby gap. His wife has never learned to drive but insists on coming with him because he can’t be trusted to do the weekly shop

Was this, by any chance, on the way to leaving DC off at a hobby?

We have a similar situation every single week when doing the above and I agree this is caused by people who cannot reverse and so refuse to even attempt it. I’ve started just sitting my ground and waiting when the gap is right behind them. Dirty looks don’t scare me. Grin

You've drawn my road OP! Drives me nuts!! I am an awesome reverser but sometimes I think literally the gap is just there YOU DO IT! It's just one of those things but I live in a village and don't want to piss people off. One guy in an estate Mercedes tried to get me to reverse by edging closer. I slowly shook my head and pointed to the gap. He was very angry with me because he couldn't reverse for toffee. I smiled and thanked his face like thunder Grin

So, what happened in the end?

Report
VelvetPineapple · 20/03/2019 20:07

B should have reversed back to let A go into the gap. B should not have reversed into the gap himself as some people seem to think, because the gap is on the wrong side of the road.

I hope you yelled back ‘if you can’t reverse you shouldn’t be on the bloody road innit?’ Before promptly winding up your windows and locking your doors. What a knob.

Also how is it that you whole village is on mn?

I agree with Velvetpineapple and the others who said B reverse and A go into the gap.

DropZoneOne · 20/03/2019 20:17

This looks just like a road in my village! B should have reversed enough for A to pull into the gap. Ideally B should have been going slowly enough to be aware that there may be oncoming traffic due to parked cars, and stopped before the gap to allow A to pull in.
