AIBU?

To put a note under their hotel room door?

A wimps way out of course but next door to me have their tv up so loud I can't hear myself think! She's banging and crashing around I know she's a she as she was on the phone earlier talking about strategies. Would it be rude to pop a polite note under the door asking for it to be turned down a little? Then run away

Agree - let reception deal with it.

Ring reception to deal with it. That's their job.

Hoping the OP hasn’t come back as she’s on the phone to reception

It’s receptions job to deal with it, not yours.

The beauty of staying in a hotel. Make it someone else’s problem! Phone reception and get them to sort it Smile

Phoned reception about 10 mins ago...awaiting noise abatement. I'm giving it another 20 minutes then I'm putting a note under the door!

She might not see a note through the door depending on the shape of the room? Or might only see it when she gets up for the loo.

If you’re doing the note, slip it under, bang loudly 3-4 times then escape.

phone reception again, complain that nothing's been done and ask to be moved into a better different room.

Don't leave a note, phone reception again and request a new room. The duty manager should come and speak to her, either she moves or you do.

Telephone rang, "oh, well I'm going out now anyway" lots of crashing about. It's a very old hotel but how does someone make so much noise just walking about?! Lots of clomping followed by my wall shaking when she let the door slam behind her.

Why are you going to the trouble of writing a note when you could knock on the door and politely ask them to turn it down?

You admit writing the note is wimping out but I don’t understand why you feel the need to do that?

“Hi, I’m in the room next door. I think these walls must be paper thin as I can hear your television so clearly it’s as if it’s in my room. Would you mind turning it down please?”
Who could possibly take offence at that?

I’d go down to reception and ask to be moved to another room if you hear a peep of noise from her when she comes back.

How long are you there? I'd ask to be moved, she's going to come back and wake you up barging around!

Because I'm a massive wimp, don't like any sort of confrontation so prefer to be passive aggressive. Grin

But it’s not confrontation. Would you be annoyed if she came to your door or would you say “oh sorry, I don’t realise and I will turn it down”?

Most people are decent.

I once stayed in a hotel room to the sound of a man beating a woman up next door. I called reception.

God that's horrible poppy, I don't like being a pain in the arse, my last comment was a bit tongue in cheek I'm no wallflower but I am not very good at sounding polite. I think my tone can be quite harsh. Anyway I have earplugs (thank you reception) hotel is full and I'm leaving tomorrow. If I hear her over my earplugs I won't be quite so nice.

Earplugs, how generous of them. Have they spoken to her and told her to be quiet when she returns, I would be expecting a complimentary meal with drinks and an apology at the very least.
