My brother [younger, only brother we are adults] borrowed a grand off me the one time I could afford to lend it to him. It's been a while and he seems to be doing ok[ we are not close and I see him going on holiday, buying a camper, affording stuff on social media.] I've asked for the grand back and been told by him that I am out of order for 'demanding' the money back, been called a 'CF' and WTF he owes us [ single parent family or not, he bloody owes it and I shall continue to demand ask to be paid back. AIBU or should I STFU and fund DBs pub lunches, holidays, weddings etc?

Fork out a few quid and send him a solicitor’s letter requesting the money back. Keep all communication from him as evidence that he owes you.

Why is he refusing to pay it back? Does he think you can afford to lose that kind of money?

*sorry, all my knowledge of these matters is from Judge Rinder.

Nothing in writing other than the bro stating he'll pay me back [like he should have already] it's been a while and I expect to have no legal claim, the bro should've paid it back [or not borrowed an amount he couldn't pay back] after one year and not being paid back I knew felt that he was not going to be bothered pay the debt. He has blocked me on FB and messenger as I'm asking to be paid back, my little bro is a prick! I described him to a woman I met on the Women's Aid Freedom Programme after he had left his wife when she was in hospital with her dying mother and she said that he's an abuser too and he is!

Urm... I really thought a ‘din-i-lo was a child dinlo or a doggy dinlo or something.

Also, who STILL calls people Dinlos?!

The term is “dinlo”

Regardless you sound awful. Yes he’s U, but he isn’t the one calling people names like dinlo on an Internet forum. Your actions are U too.

@hungryhippo90 haha, please tell me you're joking! Dinlo has got to be the most PG insult ever! Gosh OP, you really are awful... 🤣🤣 if my brother borrowed a grand then started making bull shit excuses & making me the bad guy I'd call him wayyyy worse. Way worse.

A very area specific insult. Anyway, he is being a CF

Thanks @Beautifulblue
My bro's being a dick about the money [because he knows he should've paid it already]
I'm not being awful @Hungryhippo90, I'm owed the grand, it seems really blacknwhite clear to me.

Yeah his being a total dick OP! Can you talk to your parents about it? If you really need the money back maybe try approaching him nicely, huff I know 🙄 & just say can you make monthly payments or something because I really need it back. If he still doesn't make some attempt to pay, definitely call him worse than a dinlo!!

I'm presumably being a bit thick but what is a DINILO? Is it a slang term for someone for doing something? What does it mean?

FWIW it does sound as though the OP has something to grouch about. Hardly nice being blocked on FB by someone who owes you money.

Dinilo brother? Confused
Racist, when your post's referring to a money issue and nothing else?
Sorry, completely lost. Confused

Report
Ivorbig1 · 10/08/2018 23:18

It is clear as day that if you borrow you pay back but..... he is not playing by the rules and in future never a lender or borrower be. Mang prala.

I am so confused about the 'racist' bit.

Report
Beautifulblue · 10/08/2018 23:22

dinlo
(also dinlow)
NOUN
A foolish or stupid person.
‘don't be such a dinlo’
‘some dinlow pinched my grey rubbish bin’
‘one of your dinlo mates been telling tales on me, have they?’
'Dinny' can also be used as a shorter version.

Love the examples...

It's very British.

My brother is a racist which is unrelated to this complaint.
He borrowed £1000 and has refused to pay me back.
I didn't want to lend it to him but family & all...
Should I shut up [as usual] or 'demand' to be paid back?
I 'demand' to be paid back whether I spelled dinilo right or not.
