Too fat for weight loss group..

Fattygettingthin · 13/07/2018 01:33

It's been a few months since my last post and I've moved house and into a totally new area. I've joined weight watchers and I'm recovering slowly from my operation.

Anyway! I went to the drs and asked for help with losing weight. I've lost 2 stone since May but that's without really trying as I've been getting better from my operation. He referred me to a weight loss initiative that he said he had to refer me for as I was fat too fat for my height.

My BMI was 52 and now it's 48, yes I know it's appalling but I'm doing something about it.

Cut to today I get a phone call from the organiser of the weight loss group and im too fat for it. I have to have a bmi of 35 before I'm eligible to get help from the dr referred weight loss group... wtf??! How is that a thing?

So I rang the gp back and he's referred me to a dietitian and the 'weight loss management team' to discuss bariatric surgery.

How is it possible to be too fat to go to a weight loss class? Blush wake up call here you are!!

Bariatric surgery - as in a gastric band?

Fattygettingthin · 13/07/2018 01:38

No I think it's a bypass but yes surgery. :( I feel so embarrassed and disgusted by myself.

Please don't feel like that! As you say, you've already lost two stone, and that's really without trying - so you're on your way!

If you feel up to it, why not come and join us on the low carb Bootcamp thread? We're coming up to week 9 (out of 10), but there are always people around to chat to, and I keep the chat threads going until the next Bootcamp starts anyway,

You'd be very welcome, whatever you weigh! Flowers

Being so big needs expert help, which the leader of the slimming group must not have been able to give.

The appointment will be with the Obesity Team and they will know what way to go with this.

Just hold on to the fact that you are still losing weight.

@Birdsgottafly I know it just feels weird that the gp had to refer me to the council run weightless group but my bmi made me ineligible. Weird.

I'm not going to let it stop me though. I need to continue doing this.

Don't feel disgusted with yourself, please. I find it bizarre that you can be refused due to your weight. Losing weight is possible without them anyway-you are off to a great start! don't get discouraged xx

By continuing the amazing progress you've made so far and having gastric surgery, you will have a whole new life to look forward to. Your current weight loss is just fantastic and you have proven you have the drive it takes to lose the pounds. You should be very proud of yourself!

There is a wls chat as well if you want advice. It's pretty good.

Statisitcally at your bmi you have a 1 in 700 chance of loosing and keeping the weight off without surgery. It's shocking. I'm glad your gp and health trust recognises that surgery is a realistic option.

@Imsodonewithshit god that is depressing! I was 21 stone 9 when I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy in May, I'm now 19 stone 3 so just over 2 stone down. It's so hard! But I've stopped ordering takeaway as we've moved rurally so that's no longer an option and the house has an aga so it's a challenge to pre plan meals properly! But I've managed to go from hardly ever cooking to cooking and filling the freezer with lasagne made with leeks not lasagna pasta so probably shouldn't be called lasagne 😂, spaghetti bolognese slow cooked for 14 hours, a shepherds pie etc I'm doing well in that front. I'm just so overwhelmed with how massive the journey is!

Also no one has noticed so far 😢splitters!

Oh I forgot to mention the gp was amazing but the person running the weightloss group was so unprofessional. They kept saying that they couldn't believe how high my bmi was and how young I am. Like okay thanks! Just gonna go now.. I'm 27 it's not like I'm 12!

Hey!
I just wanted to chime in and say congratulations on your weight loss so far. I’ve been losing weight this year and so far have gone from a BMI of 42.5 to 39.3.

I know how hard every 0.1 of the BMI is to move - so you are doing amazingly well so far!!

I’m so glad your motivation for losing weight is stronger than this hurdle. Keep at it! At 27 you have your whole life ahead of you. I’m 10 year older than you and I wish I had done this at 27.

PS - any chance of the leek lasagne receipe? Sounds delicious!

I'm a size 18 pushing 20, and I've just checked my BMI and it's 36.5 so I'd be too fat to join too. I fit on normal plane seats with no seatbelt extender, buy clothes from normal shops, but I'd be too fat to join. I know I need to lose a lot of weight but I don't look too fat for Weightwatchers! I think their limit's a bit low.

@FollowYourOwnNorthStar it's the skinny beef lasagne from
The hairy dieters.

I have the book too so could take a photo if that doesn't work! It's so good! I like their meatballs too ❤️

Firstly congratulations on your commitment and on losing so much weight already! Making a healthy meal plan is great. Try a simple breakfast like soaked muesli (you make it the night before so it’s easy and also filling), them simple lunch like sandwich and salad, then mostly vegetables for dinner with a bit of protein and not much carb. Stick with water or herbal teas. The other thing is portion control. Is there something driving this which needs to be addressed? For example I’m an emotional eater so use little mantras like “I deserve to be healthy” which I tell myself as my hand wavers over the biscuit tin! This might be something the counselor can help you with, if you need it. The other side of the coin is exercise. Can you walk comfortably? Can you swim? Do whatever you can, even if that means going to a shop (not a food shop) and walking around in the air conditioning!

Oh and doing a good diary for a day or two is revealing. Just write down everything you eat, and when. It helps to identify weak spots.

Don’t be disgusted by yourself. You’ve done really well so far. Idk what your surgery was but by the sound of it it wasn’t anything for your weight. Perhaps you won’t need gastric bypass if you can maintain this level of motivation. Only you can decide on that. I’m so glad you have enough self belief and awareness to understand that the problem lies with her, not you.

I’ve read some of the boot camp threads (see post above from BIWI). I’m too ill to join the thread. But I definitely would recommend you do. They seem like a fab and knowledgable bunch and by the sound of it you’re already eating similarly to them so it could be a great support group for you and definitely better than anything the sw woman could offer.

Congratulations on your weight loss .

It’s a bit of a rubbish weight loss program if it only helps people with a bmi under 35. Our weight loss program refers to the gym and there are some much larger people than you there

Well done on your weight loss. I have a lot to lose and really enjoy listening to podcasts, particularly Half Size Me, which are for people with lots to lose.

Please don't hate yourself, you're doing great. You've recognised you'll benefit from help and are making steps to get it. Well done.

There is a lady at one of the classes near me that started at 29stone and is down to 10 now. Several people in my class are 5 or 6 stone down. It is doable with support and persistence.

Don't be down hearted. Good luck x

Well done on your weight loss so far op, that's amazing.
The leader of the slimming group probably doesn't have the experience required, that's all.

First of all WELL DONE on losing weight. And well done for recognising you need to continue to do so and asking for help in order to achieve that.

It sounds like you may just at need specialist help so you don’t do more damage than food.

Congrats on doing so well.

I think I've done quite well so far but I still feel washed out and crappy after surgery. I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy at 10 weeks in May. In my old gps they were surprised if even got pregnant at the weight I was which made me feel like it was my fault it happened but I don't think it is.

So we have a Rayburn cooker and it's usually set to low when not cooking which means it takes 30 mins to get to temperature, which means I don't tend to do things like eggs for breakfast as I don't have the time, do you think we should have it at a hotter temperature so we can cook on it immediately?
