AIBU?

Baby's name

My friend's baby is due shortly and she has decided on the name but when she told us what it's going to be I was a bit shocked. It's Ava Brown.

Is it just me or is anyone thinking what I'm thinking?

Erm ... I'd double take. That's as recognisable as Bridget Jones, and not in a good way.

Has she considered Charlie instead?

Too similar to Eva Braun? Is that what you are thinking?

Does she have a dog called Blondi?

Lost on me anyway

I think if you put this up as a question on the big screen at the Champion's League final tonight, 80% of the audience would have no idea what the reference was.

Nope lost on me. Am I being thick?

I'd definitely think Eva Braun!

Those lost ...

Ava Brown sounds just about identical to Eva Braun.

Which wouldn't matter if she hadn't been Adolf Hitler's partner who committed suicide with him in the bunker at the fall of Berlin in 1945.

No biggie.

She genuinely may not know who Eva Braun is. Tbh, I would mention it (that said I googled my dd's name to make sure it wasn't a serial killer somewhere with her name!)

Yes, she may not know, but other people she meets will know. The names are each fine, but the combination ... well, OP's friend needs to have the information so she can make an informed choice.

First thing I thought. Tell her

Report
FlibbertyGiblets · 26/05/2018 21:09

Oh crikey. Yes tell her.

Report
Justfred · 26/05/2018 21:11

God she can't call her baby that! You have to tell her!

Mormont · 26/05/2018 21:14

The pronunciation of both names is the same so you need to tell her because when her daughter is studying WW2 in school it's not going to be very nice for her.

Fromage · 26/05/2018 21:14

Lots of people now clearly won't know who Eva Braun was, but assuming the child learns about WW2 at school, she'll be in for a shite time of it then.

But yeah, sounds too like Eva Braun.

I know a Genna Taylor;
Ava Brown is much better than that (there will be some people who won't get that reference)

FatherMacKenzie · 26/05/2018 21:17

Eva Braun

Report
Soubriquet · 26/05/2018 21:18

That would have been totally lost on me if someone hasn't explained up thread

Report
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/05/2018 21:22

Well I wouldn't have noticed until someone pointed it out.

I am 33, so not of a generation affected by WW2 and I know who Eva Braun is. It's the first thing I thought when I saw the name.

Tell her. If she knows and doesn't care then that's up to her but if she does know then she needs to! Eek.

Too close to Eva Braun.
