My friend's baby is due shortly and she has decided on the name but when she told us what it's going to be I was a bit shocked. It's Ava Brown.

Is it just me or is anyone thinking what I'm thinking?

MrsHathaway Sat 26-May-18 20:32:59

Erm ... I'd double take. That's as recognisable as Bridget Jones, and not in a good way.

Has she considered Charlie instead?

Bobbiepin Sat 26-May-18 20:33:40

Too similar to Eva Braun? Is that what you are thinking?

Joan90 Sat 26-May-18 20:42:04

Does she have a dog called Blondi?

Returnofthesmileybar Sat 26-May-18 20:45:05

Lost on me anyway

Pengggwn Sat 26-May-18 20:48:29

I think if you put this up as a question on the big screen at the Champion's League final tonight, 80% of the audience would have no idea what the reference was.

FlibbertyGiblets Sat 26-May-18 20:55:20

Nope lost on me. Am I being thick?

Sonders Sat 26-May-18 20:57:15

I'd definitely think Eva Braun!

MrsHathaway Sat 26-May-18 20:57:46

Those lost ...

Ava Brown sounds just about identical to Eva Braun.

Which wouldn't matter if she hadn't been Adolf Hitler's partner who committed suicide with him in the bunker at the fall of Berlin in 1945.

No biggie.

Ohcomeonn Sat 26-May-18 20:57:47

She genuinely may not know who Eva Braun is. Tbh, I would mention it (that said I googled my dd's name to make sure it wasn't a serial killer somewhere with her name!)

number1wang Sat 26-May-18 20:58:26

Someone has to save this baby OP, it looks like it’ll have to be you

MrsHathaway Sat 26-May-18 21:02:06

Yes, she may not know, but other people she meets will know. The names are each fine, but the combination ... well, OP's friend needs to have the information so she can make an informed choice.

PaintedHorizons Sat 26-May-18 21:06:36

First thing I thought. Tell her

FlibbertyGiblets Sat 26-May-18 21:09:47

Oh crikey. Yes tell her.

Justfred Sat 26-May-18 21:11:19

God she can't call her baby that! You have to tell her!

Mormont Sat 26-May-18 21:14:06

The pronunciation of both names is the same so you need to tell her because when her daughter is studying WW2 in school it's not going to be very nice for her.

Fromage Sat 26-May-18 21:14:41

Lots of people now clearly won't know who Eva Braun was, but assuming the child learns about WW2 at school, she'll be in for a shite time of it then.

But yeah, sounds too like Eva Braun.

negomi90 Sat 26-May-18 21:16:16

I know a Genna Taylor;
Ava Brown is much better than that (there will be some people who won't get that reference)

FatherMacKenzie Sat 26-May-18 21:17:15

Eva Braun

Soubriquet Sat 26-May-18 21:18:28

That would have been totally lost on me if someone hasn't explained up thread

Awwlookatmybabyspider Sat 26-May-18 21:22:39

Well I wouldn't have noticed until someone pointed it out.

blacklister Sat 26-May-18 21:24:38

I am 33, so not of a generation affected by WW2 and I know who Eva Braun is. It's the first thing I thought when I saw the name.

Tell her. If she knows and doesn't care then that's up to her but if she does know then she needs to! Eek.

Gertrudethecow Sat 26-May-18 21:26:14

Too close to Eva Braun.

FatherMacKenzie Sat 26-May-18 21:26:46

Fwiw I’m 34 and immediately thought of Eva Braun too.

Wellthisunexpected Sat 26-May-18 21:29:33

I immediately saw it too. You HAVE to tell her.
