AIBU?

To think it's ok to make a bit of a twat of yourself at the Christmas party?

Works Christmas do last night. I got drunk. Not ridiculously so but enough to throw some very dodgy moves on the dance floor, and maybe stumble on my heels a little bit (but that was more down to my footwear than drink).

Was saying to DH today I hoped I hadn't made a massive twat of myself last night (expecting a bit of reassurance) and he pretty much told me off and said it probably looked bad (my boss was there, plus some people that I manage).

Am I right in thinking everyone makes a bit of a twat of themselves at the works Christmas do? Unless they're driving and not drinking?

On a scale of drunken antics at work Christmas parties, OP, yours barely even registers Grin.

Last year a man at my work got fired after the Xmas party where he decided to break down a door in the hotel and poo on the floor.

Your fine !! Xx

Agree with screamingvalenta

You don't sound like you did anything to even worry about!

Everyone let’s their hair down at the works Christmas party. As long as you weren’t rude or aggressive or sexually inappropriate no one will care. Staff like to see their managers are human beings not stuffed shirts.

Is it OK?
I always assumed it was compulsory!

Did you pour a drink over the head of your boss's boss?
Get kicked out of a nightclub?
Get caught in a compromising position with another employee?
Get kicked out of the club and shout abuse at the bouncer?
Vomit in front of everyone?
Knock over a whole table of drinks?

All some of the things I have seen happen at Christmas parties which people got away with!

Unless you work in a convent I bet there where plenty of people acting far more twatilly than you - they won't remember your behaviour at all because they will be too busy worrying about their own.

Unless you danced with your tits out, snogged someone of the wrong gender/ sexuality, or photocopied your arse, I think you're ok.GrinWink

No, not everyone makes a twat of themselves at the works Christmas party. If you still want the respect of your boss, colleagues and those you manage. You enjoy yourself, but you dont get drunk and throw dodgey moves on the dance floor.

Perfectly normal behaviour at a night out

Well i dont care what anyone else does on their night out but I do care that I don't act like a twat.

I would spend all weekend panicking and cringing about facing everyone on Monday morning. Nothing worse than beer fear.

One Christmas Eve I was throwing some VERY funky shapes on the dance floor, went arse over tit and landed with my face in a senior manager's crotch.

I didn't get fired. Haven't been promoted either mind...

Nah, you sound fine.
We went out for dinner at a fairly posh restaurant last night (12 of us). No disco/party night or anything being held in resteraunt, just normal dinners and a festive menu. There were some work dos in and quite a few were absolutely smashed, but nothing nasty, just a bit loud and silly and stumbling about. I think its fine as long as you don't do anything offensive or disgusting (being sick at the table for example!). Hope you had fun!

The boss at the works party stares at the start if your not staggering out he would be disappointed and that you where not taking advantage of the free bar enough Xmas Grin he always made jokes on getting kicked out as many people have over the years at these parties. He doesnt mind.

Whats so wrong with dancing on a dance floor? Even if you dance badly?
Unless "dodgy" means overtly sexual?

Sounds tame. 😂 at our summer party our boss bought shots, but no one would drink them so I had 4 along with whatever else I was drinking, I told an old friend that i loved him 😭 chatted complete shit for ages, stumbled everywhere. Had to be carried home, threw up all over the bathroom, then didnt leave my bed for over 24 hours.
DH and DD were both very caring (and quiet) when they came in to check on me every hour with toast and water 🤢🤢
