AIBU?

To not have TV screens or phones at my wedding

We've just got engaged. We've set the date - 19th May. I was so excited but now someone has told me that some football game is going to be played in that date. It's like Superbowl or something. I don't know, I don't know about your British Customs.

And someone else has made a joke that all the male guests will be on their phone's all afternoon watching the game. My fiance wants to put up giant TV screens so that he can watch it too.

I am not happy. I want to move the date - either the wedding date or the game date, I don't care. 👰Angry

Hmm

There was some world cup game the day of my wedding. Place I got married was like a hotel / golf complex- so I specifically asked the venue to switch off the Wi-Fi and the TVs 😂

Pagwatch · 15/12/2017 15:44

It's a good effort but no, not really OP.

I doubt Harry gives a shit about the FA cup. Who does anymore?

Neverender · 15/12/2017 15:45

Meghan Markle is marrying Harry on the same day...so....

SadTrombone · 15/12/2017 15:45

In the section we had hired, not the whole place. I'm not that much or a control freak

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 15/12/2017 15:45

Is that you, Meghan?

StereophonicallyChallenged · 15/12/2017 15:46

Grin OP

yrhengi · 15/12/2017 15:47

Don't worry, Speghan, it's not like your brother in law/best man is usually the one handing out the winners' trophy at... oh, wait.

wherethevioletsgrow · 15/12/2017 16:09

Yeah real funny and not at all lame/tired/boring....

expatinscotland · 15/12/2017 16:13

The sooner we get rid of all this 'royal' nonsense, the better. Who honestly gives a fuck about these people?

Cornettoninja · 15/12/2017 16:45

Fuck me, Do some of you go round shoving your miserable pouts into people's faces in public because you over hearing their conversation makes you roll your eyes?

I don't like parody posts either, know what I do? Move on. Is it really that disappointing to not have the chance to give a bridzilla a good kicking?

Some forums have a phrase for what you're doing - shit posting.

When I was booking my wedding I visited a venue the day before an England World Cup fixture, which was on a Saturday. The owner said that he had a summer weekend off planned for the first time in five years. The couple had booked the wedding. He’d said “you do know that that’s the England game don’t you?” They said “it’ll be fine”. Once they’d received the RSVPs and realised just how many “no thanks” they had, they had to rearrange the wedding and the owner of the venue kept the deposit to spend on beer for the game.

I’m not sure Meghan will have that problem

SpeghanSparkle · 15/12/2017 17:22

There is no way the best man is going to do a live link up to present the trophy. No no no.

I have an idea!
Merge the two.

Have the ceremony at the match, middle of the pitch at half time. Then settle down to watch the second half, and go and have a good all knees up round the old piano as the reception. Sorted.

Sadly the FA cup final has started at 515 or so for the last four years so there will be no issue.

Mumof56 · 15/12/2017 18:09

You guests wouldn't be allowed an hour to watch a match?

I hope you & hubby won't be disappearing off for endless photo ops.

And banning phones...come on Hmm

Yes, these threads are funny. Fun Police are not though.

Originalfoogirl · 16/12/2017 01:23

Speghan

I think you should put your foot down. I’m sure your fiancée will understand that his traditions and customs are totally overrated and you need, as a couple, to start your own.

I’m sure his family will understand too.

PringlesSmoothie · 16/12/2017 04:04

Op i suggest you leave the bastard.

Have you picked a dress? Maybe you can get one in the January sales? I know these things can be pricey.

I think the vast majority of people will be watching the football

Topseyt · 18/12/2017 13:05

Tell your soon to be BIL that there will be no nipping out to present the FA Cup to the winners. Grin

Ask his grandmother for permission to put up a large flat screen TV at the reception. I'm sure she will be delighted. 😂
