To have thought Mother Theresa was from biblical times?

When I was younger (not in my twenties oh no) I was convinced Mother Theresa was from biblical times until I saw her on the news.

I was absolutely convinced and one of my friends the same age as me thought the same!

Please tell me I’m not the only one who thought this

She often behaved like she was and did some awful things. She left people dying without pain relief as their suffering was 'noble' whilst taking the best private health care for herself.

I remember seeing her on the news as I was growing up so knew she was around.
I've thought plenty of daft things before, so no judging from me maybe a little snigger instead

I thought bats were mythological creatures like dragons or something until I was about 9. I lived in the countryside where we had bats flying around! I thought people were just winding me up about them being bats and that they were actually "night birds".

I also thought the phrase "round of applause" was "roundabout plaus". I thought (and said) that until I was in my early twenties and I still hear it as that when people say it

I was loudly incredulous when told my school friends (aged 12/13?) that Michael Jackson wasn’t white.

I know someone who thought "sweet nothings" meant literally saying "sweet nothings" to his gf instead of saying something loving to her. He's not lived that down yet....

I was genuinely convinced that the Netherlands were landlocked until, erm, about a year ago.

I’ve been to Amsterdam at least four times and seen all the canals (and the port!), so if I’d stopped to think about I’d realise that of it’s not bloody landlocked. But for some reason this ‘fact’ was just stuck in my head since childhood. I think I misinterpreted something I once heard my parents say about Dutch people. I promise you I am actually quite bright really

OuchLegoHurts I thought ‘this morning’ was ‘the smorning’ until I was about 12, which was when Richard and Judy started presenting the popular daytime tv series. I had never seen it written down before then. My DP now purposely says ‘the smorning’ to me whenever he has cause to say it!

Also... I was in my teens when I realised that those huge cooling towers are not, in fact, cloud factories. I still tell my kids that though.

The seahorse one reminded me, I thought starfish were actually shells and the name was a joke. I think because my mum had the dried ones you used to get with packs of shells. I was shocked to find out that they were living things.

I can see how you would think that. She was a pretty awful woman, she certainly behaved as if she was running the ancient Judaic equivalent of a care home - she was not keen on pain relief for the dying, for example.

Obviously everyone can make their own minds up on this but medical care in her "hospices" seems to have been lacking, her sisters baptized Muslims and Hindus without proper consent (which I personally think means nothing but I think they would have been bothered), and many Indian commentators have criticised her colonialism.

I thought until my mid 20s that there was a person that sat inside a cash machine and manually dispensed money through the slot all day every day. Dp pissed himself when I said to him one really hot day after getting money out that the person must be sweltering in there and I hoped they were drinking lots

No I didn’t think she was from biblical times as I saw her being venerated on the tv when I was a child. And remember the public mourning when she died. What I now know is that she was not the benevolent all giving person she was portrayed to be and left people to suffer immensely.

I used to think if you bought something online, it would print from your printer in full, tangible form. It never occurred to me that it would be sent in the post.
