Trapped Wind (HELP!)

RavenLG · 24/10/2017 11:00

Posting here for traffic.

For the past 4/5 days I’ve been suffering with bloating and trapped wind and I’ve weirdly lost the ability to burp!!! It’s not trapped gas in my intestines (so it doesn’t want to come out the bottom end!) it’s all in my stomach and whatever I do I can’t get it out!

I feel as if I’ve got a gas bubble stuck in my throat. When I try to burp nothing comes out or I get this strange gurgling sensation / noise and a little bit of relief but not a proper burp. I’ve tried rennies to no avail. I’ve tried drinking fizzy pop to get a load of gas inside me to force it out but it didn’t help. I feel broken and uncomfortable.

I’ve been taking fluoxetine for several weeks for anxiety and depression so I’ve heard that can cause digestive issues (I did feel nauseous for a few weeks but that has subsided). I have a doctor’s appointment on Monday next week but I’m going to Poland on Thursday for a friend’s birthday and fear the increased air pressure on the plane may make me explode!!! (and I just generally want to be comfortable for the trip).

I feel like a big inflated beach ball with a constant lump in my throat like I need to be sick.

Anyone have any remedies / advice before I go mad or call a vet to cut a hole in me like when cows and horses get bloat!!!

Oh bless you it’s awful!

Try Colpermin and peppermint tea. Always worked a treat for me

I swear by Sainsbury's health salts. They come in a little blue tub and you mix a couple of teaspoons with water.

Get down on all 4s and move as if you’re looking for something under the couch. This really helps to release trapped wind.

Do you have an exercise ball? Rolling over it on your tummy helps to get wind out.

Do you have a birthing ball/pilates ball? If you do go onto your knees leaning forward on it and roll around in circular movements. Will help to shift the wind. Also peppermint tea helps too.

If you don’t have a ball, go to the top of your staircase and rest your knees on the first step down and your chest on the landing and move back and forward to untrap the wind. You’ll look like a total lunatic but it will help!

You could try sipping cooled boiled water. Don't cool it down completely, but let it cool down from boiled to a temperature that you can comfortably drink. It sounds crazy but it always works for me. Windeeze are also good.

Yoga moves help, so does swimming.

And windeeze.

Peppermint tea gets me burping!

Sit up with a very straight back, tilting my head to face the ceiling and holding my arms out straight either side helps me. Just try and make the path from your stomach to your mouth as straight and easy as possible. If you have someone else around try getting them to rub your back in that position.

I lost my ability to burp naturally after I had my gallbladder removed and this works for me - was taught by my MIL as the same thing happened to her.

Thank you for the help everyone. Off to raid boots at lunch. I don't have a birthing ball or stairs (live in a bungalow) but I'll try some of the tips.

It's bloody awful. I've on occasion lost the ability to burp for a day but it's been a few days now and it's horrendous. I hope it comes back!

Sounds quite like indigestion. I’d recommend some Ranitidine tablets (75mg) for immediate relief then see the docs if it doesn’t clear up.

if you can get your hands on it, black seed oil will get you burping.
Other than that, agree with peppermint tea or extract.

Rennie Deflatine - it's in an orange packet and works wonders.

Are you eating normally?

Make sure when you’re in bed you don’t curl up in a ball. Lie nice and straight.

My daily latte makes me burp more than dizzy drinks so maybe give that a try

Yes, might be indigestion. Anti depressants can cause it. If it goes with ranitadine you might want to check your diet as there could be a food (greasy, spicy etc) which is causing it that you were previously ok with before the tablets.

Thanks all.
I’ve bought bisodol and gavison as was all I could get at tesco (couldn’t escape work too long). I have mint green tea in my drawer at work, now I’m back at my desk I’ll have some of that and have some peppermint infusion bags at home I’ll try.

Diet is normal, I’m probably eating more than I was when I started taking the tablets as they knocked me sick and I couldn’t face a lot of food, but eating similar. I’ve not ate anything particularly spicey or greasy over the past few days but will keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the help all.

Bicarb of soda, a teaspoon dissolved in water, is the best. Also peppermint tea.

Report
liz70 · 24/10/2017 15:52

Greeneyed girl got there before me! Make sure you gulp the bicarb solution down quickly, taking in plenty of air. You'll be belching Shrek style in no time! Smile

Get anything with simeticone in it, it's the active ingredient in windeze and things.

Lie on your back and bring your knees up to your chest and back down again.

Get on all fours, raise your bum (so put shoulders and head to floor and move hips side to side

Hold onto kitchen sink (or bathroom) and do quick squats.

Flat on your back and jiggle your tummy up and down with both hands.

When you go to the loo for a number too, raise your knees up (on a pack of loo roll or a step stool) to give a free flow of air so to speak!

And peppermint tea.

I get this a lot. Andrews salts is the only thing that helps (also called effervescent health salts if you're buying own brand.)
