AIBU?

To think DH should go to minor injuries

DH woke up in the small hours of this morning complaining about testicle and abdominal pain. He's gone to work and is sore unless sitting completely still. He said it felt like he was kicked in the balls and he definitely hasn't.

Dr Google suggests any sudden onset significant testicle pain should be considered testicular torsion until proven otherwise and torsion can be a real problem as the testicle blood supply has been cut off.

DH has insisted all will be fine and it'll go away on it's own. AIBU to insist he goes to see a medic at minor injuries?

I promise you if it gets worse he will decide to take himself in.
Men are pretty protective of their bits, even if they are worried or embarrassed. He's a grown man, let him be.

Take him in asap. You only have a few hours to sort if it is torsion. Go.

Yep, don't wait,he could lose his ball if it's testicle torsion.

Or it may be this which can require surgery:

Wouldn't go to minor injuries for that, needs to be seen at a hospital where they can provide an ultrasound to assess whether the testes have normal blood supply. If his symptoms fit with torsion it needs to be seen to pretty urgently or he could lose the testicle. The pain is usually v severe however you can get partial torsion as well and this still needs to be treated as urgent.

Please go. My son had this and needed an immediate operation. Could be a testicular torsion & these are not symptoms you should ignore.

It's his body & he knows what is the normal range of pain he's had before that went away by itself. I wouldn't be worried.

Agree with those who said he will take himself in if it is all that bad.

Er, have you had a look? Does it look red or swollen?

Yes it could be torsion, he needs to be seen and sooner rather than later, testicular torsion is a surgical emergency.

Many men try to bury their head in the sand when it comes to anything testicle, penis, bowel related which can have devastating consequences.

Not sure how services work wherever you are but Minor Injuries usually only deal with Minor injuries funnily enough.

You should try and get an emergency gp appt within the nxt hour who can refer your husband direct to surgical/urology team at hospital , otherwise attend a&e where he should be triaged as a high priority to be seen by a&e doctor in the first instance who will likely then refer to surgical/urology depending on specialities available at local hospital..

I haven't looked, or rather he didn't show me but he left for work pretty sharpish this morning. He has never complained about this kind of pain in the 11 years I've known him so I don't think it's something he's had before that resolved itself.

Our closest minor injuries is part of a teaching hospital which is why I think it's the best place for him - they have all the specialists and equipment if it does turn out to be a torsion.

He's still not listening to me, but this might be a time where "show him this thread" is appropriate.

DS ended up in theatre within four hours 2 weeks ago as testicular torsion is a level 2 emergency

As a retired theatre nurse I recognised the symptoms and had him in hospital in 20 mins

After 6 hours the chance of saving a testicle starts to drop rapidly, please get him assesssed at A&E now!

There are other things it could be but it isn't worth taking a change and needs a qualified assessment

Must say don't mess about with gp it's an A&E visit and state potential torsion on triage time is ticking

Send him a link to this thread - that should do it!

He definitely needs to get it checked out ASAP. This happened to my brother as a teenager. He was too embarrassed to say anything until the pain got unbearable and he ended up with a serious infection and lost the testicle as a result, entailing two lots of surgery and about two weeks in hospital. Could all have been avoided if he'd just had it looked at straight away.

Agree he should get it checked out ASAP.

The son of one of PILs close friends lost one of his testicles because he had a testicular torsion that wasn't treated quickly enough.

Surgeon here. He needs to go to hospital right now. I hate taking out dead testicles because a patient was too embarassed to go to hospital until it's too late to save it.

Wow, I never realised something like this could be so dangerous. Good to know.
My DP would be the same if he had pain in his genitals, he would desperately hope it would go away on it's own rather than have someone look at/touch 'his junk'. I find it really odd as always assumed most men were more comfortable with being exposed what with urinals in public toilets, but regardless I'm sure the doctors will have seen plenty of other testicles and penis(es/s/i/what's the multiple of penis?).
Give him a call and tell him straight, if it's still at all painful it could be torsion and he could lose his balls, hopefully that will get him moving to the closest A&E.

He should go. My DH had this pain before and it turned out to be a twisted testicle.

NouveauBitch · 18/08/2017 12:43

I think I may have bullied him into taking it seriously. He is on his way to urgent care/A&E and I'll meet him there. If it gets exciting I'll live post from the hospital.

Thank you for backing me up.

Rafikils, the plural is either 'penises' or 'penes' (and in the same way, the singular of 'testes' is 'testis').

I realise this doesn't help the OP or her poor husband, but someone asked.

Good luck, hopefully it's not a torsion but better to be safe than sorry

I personally wish there was education on the subject for boys in sex Ed classes

DS 13 had a class 6 weeks ago no mention of physical health care but they got talked to about anal beads which is obviously more important
