6yo asking to have her ears pierced...

Wibu to let her? I'm thinking at the beginning of the holiday so they have time to heal ready for school. I didn't anticipate her asking this of me so young.

You can say No. Seems quite young.

if she knows it will hurt and is still insistent i probably would.

i had mine done about 5/6. Probs against the grain here but i think they look lovely.

Dd has been asking since she was 5. I keep saying no, not until she's 12. Same answer every time.

Go to a proper piercing studio though.

Not Claire's.

They won't really be healed in six weeks - certainly not healed enough to tolerate being taken out for PE (I have three piercings in each lobe so I speak from experience). Also, would a six year old be able to take the earrings out and put them back in without help.

My DD is 5 and I won't let her have her ears pierced until she's much older. I've told her it hurts which is enough of a deterrent right now.

I know I can say no, I just wondered whether it's is a fairly typical request. My uncle had my ears pierced when I was three, he was babysitting and thought my mum would think it cute. She nearly killed him. Dd is my eldest so just looking for a frame of reference.

I would too at 6. I think I had mine done around that age and my own dd was 7 when she started asking.

I would say it depends on the child, at that age. If they could maintain them themselves, and are not lilely to always be tearing around with earrings in, then ok. Bu if not I'd wait til a little older.
We had ours done at 8, though both me and Dsis let ours close up and got them re-done as teens, so maybe still not quite old enough!

Honestly, don't. Wait until she's 12.

Just say no? It's not something I would consider letting my DDs do until they were much much much older.

If you think she'll let you clean them and look after them properly why not. But as pp said, proper studio that uses needles, not guns. It's less painful, less traumatic to ear tissue and more hygienic

My kids - all 3 of them got their ears pierced between 6 & 7. I think dd3 was a bit short of 6 to be honest. Its not that big a thing where I am, most kids get it done in younger primary. Their school has no issue with it, they've all managed perfectly well with them. The eldest is now 12 & there's been no earring ripping out, infections, ears falling off, decline in intelligence Wink all the usual MN prophecies of doom.

I don't recall my dd ever having to take them out for PE either. She has always only had small studs for school and is now 13 and has had no problems with them.

I had mine done at 7/8 at the start of the school holidays. They weren't completely healed when school started again, so the gym teacher would give me that white paper-like tape to stick over my ears while doing PE.

My dds had them done at 6 and all fine. We even went to the devil incarnate Clair's. Again all fine. School never mentioned it and I have never heard of anyone asking to take them out for P.E.

But your call no one is right to get it done or otherwise

Had my dd done last year she was 5. Get her booked in now tho . Our local place clears 2 days in the diary for it at the end of term. It's very common here. They get booked up fast! As long as she knows it will hurt a bit.

Piercing the ears of children is awful.

My dds were 5+6 and had asked for about 2 years before I said yes!! I told them it would hurt. And how they work have to clean them with stuff that might sting!! They had them done at the start of 6 weeks hols. No worries at all. Healed lovely and they had no issues 5 years later. Older dd never asked til she was 11 and she cried. And passed out when we changed the earrings 6 weeks later!! Age is no guarantee of handling it better!!

My DD won't be allowed until at least secondary school (the Summer holidays between primary and secondary). My ExP doesn't want them doing until she is at least 16, I'm ok with secondary school if she really wanted them doing, but absolutely not at the moment in infant school, even though her friends have pierced ears. If she really wants them doing at age 11 she'll have to convince her dad to agree.

I wouldn't consider it until about 10. It's hard to rationalise why, apart from the responsibility of looking after them, more the fact it's a grown up thing and childhood is short enough for girls as it is.

My mum's rule was we had to be 10 and prepared to look after them ourselves. I stopped at just one lobe piercing in each ear; my sister has multiple ear, lip, tongue, nose and eyebrow piercings.

DD who is 6, wants her ears pierced. She also wants a snake. She's getting neither.

Check what he's schools rules and first about taking them out its everyone heals differently it could be up to 6 months till they are ready to be taken out. Also bare in mind that's it's 2-3 weeks of on swimming after they are done not great if it's hot
