To ask what you do about being hairy?

Ok despite my user name I am definitely a girl! I am 37 and have previously been diagnosed with PCOS. Was on dianette until we ttc. After having baby 1 went back to docs for the pill and was not allowed dianette due to new concerns on it. Now on mini pill. Have now had two babies. Just feel like I am getting hairier and don't know what to do. I am referring to my chin/lip. It isn't excessive by any means but is getting me down and noticeably worsening. I pluck something at least once a day and they are dark and spikey as they grow back. Not nice. Interested to know what methods people have tried. I would happily pay for some
Kind of laser treatment if it worked but as this is hormonal will it? Has anyone had anything from the doctors to help? I just got dismissed when I asked. Thanks

I have had brilliant results with the Phillips lumea. It is the only thing after years of trying every other hair removal method that I have been really happy with. And I was very hairy!

But someone here recommended the springy things that pluck hair out. I got 5 off amazon for £3.

I rarely say this but they are life changing for me. Pluck the dark hair and fine fluffy ones too. Loads quicker than plucking.

Same as thisnthat. Philips lumea has changed my life. It works best if you have dark hair and fair skin. I don't have regrowth for about 6-8 weeks at a time now.

Me too with the pcos. I've got an epilator which I carefully use on my chin and top lip. I also have a laser thingy suppose it's similar to a lumea but use it so infrequently I can't say it's brilliant but that's my fault. Good luck x

Lumea here too - hasn't worked fantastically well but there is a difference. A lifetime of waxing led to a dark tash like mark on my face when sunbathing because of the thinner skin, so I had to give other options a go!

Yes, I use it on my face - it has made a world of difference. I was constantly plucking thick dark hairs from my chin and waxing my upper lip which left a horrible rash. Now after initially using the lumea weekly I probably use it once every month or so.

You could learn how to thread it yourself. Faster than tweezing and no damage to your skin

Using the Lumea, I know you have to shave before. Does the hair instantly fall out/ get frazzled or does it grow for a bit and then fall out?

I used to pluck until it was taking me more than a hour - every day!

I tried the springy thing - but not sure my technique is refined enough.

I've had laser - so it is less but still too much to pluck daily.

I've also had electrolysis - but I probably need more...

So - because there is so much - in the end I resorted to a daily shave with a disposable razor - which was mortifying when I first started - so embarrassing - but its quick. I'm so paranoid I have disposables hidden all over the place - just in case I forget.

There - I've 'fessed up now - I could easily fill in for the bearded lady in the local circus.

It just stops the hair growing. After a few months I barely had to shave my legs and no longer have ingrowing hairs and skin feels smooth.
Bikini line worked first due to colour and thickness of hair. Face took a bit longer.
You can use everywhere if you get one with different head attachments.

I don't have pcos, but had a tache since puberty. I wax/epilate. I have a lumea, but have been slack about using it. Need to do more.

Pluck, bleach and wax. And try and get a light tan (stupid I know) so at least the hair isn't as obvious.

Electrolysis didn't work so I'm reluctant to splash out on a lumea.

Laser will work BTW. I saw someone on embarrassing bodies with pcos who had it done.

Develop a relationship with your tweezers. I'm not joking or being cruel, I get the chin thing too and now I have grown quite fond of plucking in the evenings. If Dp used my tweezers and doesn't put them back in the same place I get really cross hahaha

Go for a professional wax every 3 weeks. Doesn't cost much or take long. Used to be every 4 weeks but I'm getting hairy more as I get older.

I used to pluck every day, it was a right PITA the I got a surprise tax rebate and spent it on some laser treatment. Omg life changing! Honestly it made a huge difference to my confidence, instead of hiding behind my hand when I talk to people in broad daylight, I can now hold my head high.

It was several years ago now and I've started to get a few coming back, so invested in a home IPL machine. It was about £160 I think (SmoothSkin Gold) and it has zapped all the returning hairs really effectively.

I've also done my arm pits which are now constantly hair free (again, I imagine they'll need a top up at some point, but being able to put on a t shirt without checking for fuzz is very liberating.)

If you can afford it I'd definitely recommend a semi/permanent method rather than waxing, plucking, bleaching etc which is just a constant struggle to keep it at bay.

I have the Tria precision which does work brilliantly but only after a few weeks of continued use and only on the dark hair- not the peach fuzz (although they say it does, I believe). Great for under arms too but I found it too painful on my bikini line.

DD has PCOS . She had laser hair removal on NHS and now has maintenance treatments privately.
It was a life changer for her.

The problem with asking this op is you need to ask people to specify if they have also been diagnosed with PCOS and then do their treatment methods work eg Philips Lumea.

Because PCOS is a hormone condition some of things wont work peole need to say if they have hormone condition and then does it work.

Anyway op, I am like you I have to pluck too but I had a massive confidence crisis over it a while back, it was awful but now I have relaxed about it - its horrid - but you can pluck them out.

^^ yes but there are different grades and types and if you dont get right one its an expensive mistake to makde
