About 1.5cm long. Look at its tail / stinger! What on earth is it?! It flies too. I've never seen anything like it in all my years.
I can't stop scratching just thinking of it.
Excuse the pic, I caught it in the nearest jar which is a bit grubby.

Could it be some kind of parasitic wasp? So an egg laying tube not a stinger. Like this - www.birdguides.com/webzine/article.asp?print=1&a=2982

It could be a parasitic wasp and that "stinger" part is its egg laying tube

I have absolutely no idea what that is. Kill it! Or if you're channeling your inner feline, torment it, play with it, kill it and then present it!

Channellingmyinnerfeline · 13/05/2017 15:40

Doesn't look like a horse fly. Not stripey for a wood wasp.

Might be a spider wasp.
Won't hurt you - unless you happen to be a spider? If you are then run fast and far away on all 8 of your legs!!!

Have you not smashed it with a shoe yet?

That's worthy of a lighter and hairspray.

I'm telling you now, if you don't like this, then do NOT watch Stung. Awful scary film that I've since dreamt about. Shudder

It's an ichneumon wasp and won't hurt you. They lay eggs in wood through the long thing 😀

I think its also called a gall wasp - look terrifying but harmless.

Report
phlebasconsidered · 13/05/2017 16:14

It's an icheumen wasp. Not really a wasp. It stings other insects. It's totally harmless to humans.

It's a wood wasp. Totally harmless but they make a very annoying loud noise like a toy windmill
