AIBU?

To think you can't enjoy exercise if you just ... don't?

I would be interested if anybody ever has because I. Hate. It.

I hate - classes (am a bit thick slow to pick things up, so can take keep up. Plus can see myself in the mirror) the gym generally as I just get bored and it hurts and I can't focus on anything like music or a film because all I can think is 'ow this hurts, ow, ow, ow' walks (get bored on my own) running (no chance) cycling (hurts my backside) swimming (I just can't be doing with all the faff.)

So - any ideas? Or should I just write off exercise and moderate my food intake RIGHT down?

You need to excersise to maintain fitness and flexibility into old age. Thin does not equal fit or flexible or healthy.

You might just need to change the bike seat for a bigger softer one or get a bike you can sit upright on

Yanbu I don't enjoy doing any excercise directly, but like the feeling I have afterwards.

Make it social. Do stuff with friends

YANBU. Exercise just isn't fun, there's no getting around that.

I hate exercise so I walk the dog, cycle to work and watch what I eat. Fuck the gym, honestly.

YANBU. I hate it. I do it because I know it's good for me but I really, REALLY hate it.

I want to enjoy exercise but I hate it. All of it. I know its part of the reason I am so fat and I wake up everyday determined to change but still end up eating crap and no exercise. How do people get that endorphins thing afterwards? I just feel miserable, tired and ratty.

YANBU. I envy those who enjoy it so much. I quite like classes but because of childcare find it difficult to attend, hate the gym/treadmill etc and hate dvd's (although I do them occasionally)
I move a lot during the day so not totally sedentary but would like to be fitter. Hate that it's an ongoing thing as well. You can't get fit and then just stop.

Yanbu

It's just not enjoyable. It's hard and boring. People always say you get to love it and you get addicted and all that crap.

But I don't, it's always hard and boring and difficult and not enjoyable to me. Even when I did it for months once.

I like how I feel after. If you want to exercise I'd suggest a Fitbit as it can make it more social/competitive. I go to bootcamp in the local park which are hard work but mostly a laugh. Also been playing "just dance" on the wii. I struggle to get round to starting it but always enjoy it once I get started.

I find dancing is fun. Some people do enjoy running apparently. Brisk walking with podcasts is also fun, especially good if you have hills.

I've never really had the endorphins thing.

I hate going with friends even more than alone. Because they are fitter than me and can talk and exercise at the same time Grin

I like going for walks with friends but I don't really get to do that any more.

I just went to the gym. Ten minutes fast walking at a slight incline and then three minutes on the rower and I was DEAD.

80 calories. Then I did three lengths in the pool at a funny angle because I couldn't be arsed washing my hair.

Try Pilates. It's very good, and will get you used to following an instructor.

Most people get it wrong on classes at first. It took my about 12 Zumba classes to pick up the steps.

Be a bit easier on yourself. You won't be perfect at first. Classes are good for exercise haters. Fat burn for example you don't need to do steps at all, but I find the time goes quicker than alone.

You don't know if you don't try...

I hated exercise my whole life until I joined a gym at age 34. I go 4 times a week and have done for 16 years now. It enabled me to not restrict food. And I lost 2 and a half stone. I changed my mind set about exercise I think.

I hate the gym too. Noisy - why do you have to have either a television showing inane rubbish, or stupid loud music?; Smelly, vile changing rooms full of other people's hair and other people's ghastly children shouting loudly and running around.

I walk everywhere instead.

No, I don't get endorphins after exercise either.

Why do you need to enjoy it? It's beneficial, just get it done and get on with the day

Cosmicglitterpug · 09/04/2017 12:41

I don't like it. Have got a personal trainer and dread it tbh, but I'm lazy and need a kick up the arse

The problem with Pilates or yoga is my lack of flexibility Blush

Even DH has complained. I will put it that way!

You can find apps that make exercise more fun, I do Zombies Run which is awesome. It's made by Six to Start who also do The Walk, Super Hero work out and some others.

Walking can be more interesting if you start finding something to do while doing it, you can make a play list, listen to podcasts or hunt Pokemon.

You can get a FitBit and set up steps challenges with friends that makes walking more fun if you are competitive.

With exercise DVDs you can do an exercise class at home and avoid the mirrors, there are loads of different types so you can find one to suit you. Try them out on You Tube first to see if the instructor's style appeals to you.

In theory walking should be fine if I was doing something. In practice though I just don't.

I never do exercise dvds! I wouldn't be able to follow them anyway. I've always been crap at picking stuff up.

I think you just have to find something you like or can tolerate. The gym and exercise classes are definitely not for me. Nor swimming.
But I like racket sports (needs decent hand/eye co-ordination) and can tolerate and even sometimes enjoy running.
There are so many different types of exercise/sport. Somewhere there should be one you can manage.

I haven't found one yet! I think the only things I might enjoy are too expensive /inconvenient for me to do regularly.
