Great way to deflect attention from his crap and start WWIII.

His comment about it changing everything does imply he had no idea about the last few years of similar attacks by the Syrian regime. Because appallingly it really isn't a new thing.

What do you think bombing an airfield after warning the Russians has accomplished?

Report
TrollMummy · 07/04/2017 16:17

Watching the awful images from Syria I was just shouting at the tv thinking this is so awful and that the world has to do something. However the situation is incredibly complex and difficult as it is it's not possible to resolve by dropping more bombs. The cynic in me cannot imagine that a narcissist like Trump does anything purely to help others. There's always something in it for him, like the being seen as the hero and the good guy. Let's hope it doesn't go horribly wrong.

And why do you think nothing was done before?

And why do you think doing "something" in Syria (more like anything) is better than doing "nothing"?
Can you not envision ways in which something makes things worse?

Would you be happy with an all out war in Syria? Open conflict with Russia?

he hasn't done something really

except give terrorists a reason to launch gas attacks in the hope of more 'action'

He's had a knee jerk (emphasis on the jerk) reaction with little thought

The day when everyone starts to understand the reason of the publicity stunts like today's attacks, will be the day when crap like Trump and Bush and Blair will start to fade away.
Till then, we can only hope for our and Syrian children getting bombed by bombs made in American and russian industries.

This was the last thing I wanted to happen and I fully understand the complexities involved. Maybe I haven't expressed it very well but I am very dubious about Trump and his motives.

He has done what he said he wasn't going to do. He has done what he vilified obama for doing.

I am not going to pretend I understand what is going on in Syria, but Trumps u-turn just proves even more of what a slimy bastard he is.

His speech about 'beautiful babies' turned my stomach. It was so disingenuous.

Babyblues14 · 07/04/2017 18:43

Agreed.
He may be an idiot who has some ridiculous ideas but he is not sitting back and letting it carry on like most leaders do.
What will there be to gain from doing nothing??
Then they will continue to do it because no one tries to stop them

EdmundCleverClogs · 07/04/2017 18:43

He's a hypocrite, one of his biggest campaign lines was that if Clinton won she'd basically do this and start WW3. If he cared so much about 'beautiful babies' dying in such horrific ways, he'd allow them shelter in his damn country. If anything, he's a bigger cunt in my eyes.

Russian media say, there was some international commission that checked Assad has no chemical weapons anymore, so the chemical attack was a provocation used as a reason for today's strike.

I dislike him even more (which I truly hadn't thought possible).

I agree it's a knee jerk reaction by someone not fit to be in his position. He must be stopped. He's reacted the way any of us would at first look, he hasn't stopped to think of the ramifications of his actions. If he carries on many more "beautiful babies" will die. This isn't the right approach, I don't know what is (but I'm not President), but this has the potential to cause so much worse. For Syrian civilians and the rest of the world. He's a hypocritical idiot, the same as Theresa May, with his hands in the wrong place.

Wasn't the previous gas British made?

Secondly, wasn't this what trump said he would not do.

Thirdly, didn't Obama try to get everyone involved and it fell flat on his face?

Fourthly, who are they attacking and who will be in power, out of the 100+ rebel groups.

Fifth, what happens in Yemen?

I started a thread earlier saying that I believe this strike on an airstrip was done to take the heat off of the enquiry into his Russian dealings. If they (Trump/Putin) orchestrate a little tiff he wont look like a Russian poodle. The Syrian war is not new, scores of kids have died before today so why has this latest attack made him do a 180? We are being manipulated. May better not get us involved.

Why was Trump so vocal about blocking the air strike that Obama tried to get legally authorised through Congress in 2013, only to change his mind now that he is POTUS? Why didn't he go through Congress this time? Why has he said that he has no plans to oust Assad and that these strikes were a 'one off'? What have they achieved? Assad hasn't been bought to account, nothing has changed. What was the point? He has flexed his power, that is all. He doesn't care about the Syrian people. He has dropped his bombs and is now leaving them to it. Assad's regime will continue to bomb it's people, maybe not with chemical weapons but those regular explosives will still do the trick. What has he achieved? Nothing. So why has he done it? What is the bigger picture? Is it simply a display of power to try and silence all those who oppose and ridicule him?

Trump doesn't care about Muslim kids. Didn't he once advocate bombing the shit out of Muslim countries? It's not only adults who live in them.

I thought 59 missiles, just like that without much thought in my mind, by trump. I'm more than slightly worried is an understatement.

It might be the right thing in this instance but in fact I find it more worrisome. He is very temperamental and doesn't think things through. In the space of hours he went from never wanting to intervene in Syria and criticising Obama for doing so, to intervening directly more aggressively than Obama or any western government, in conflict to his own advisor's wishes. Unpredictability is scary when someone has the missile launch codes.

Furthermore I call BS on his emotional reaction to children being gassed. He did this ostensibly against the wishes of Russia to present the image that he is not in collusion with Russia and he's not Putin's lapdog. Convenient timing considering the investigation into the Trump people -Russia dealings. Lastly, this strike was more symbolic than an effectual blow against Assad.

What Trump and his minions didn't predict very well was that Putin was more pissed off by this than they expected. Recently there has been a widening chism between Putin and Assad reportedly, I think Trump thought a symbolic (but not very effectual) show of missile strength would be forgiven by Putin. The white house is now desperately trying to reinstate the military back channel, the "deconfliction channel" that Putin abruptly pulled out of this morning... Trump is a toddler playing with real bombs.

It's entirely deliberate to say "look, how can I be in Putin's pocket when I've done this?"

Wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing was set up from start to finish - just think about that and remember those baby's faces. Dangerous, psychopathic men playing war games with absolute disregard for civilian life. But hey ho, they're Muslims so who gives a fuck? Sad

I think that every major nation is using Syria as one big military exercise. They have all these new weapons but cannot use them elsewhere. But, hey, let's use Syria to play last one standing in.

What will there be to gain from doing nothing??

There's a thought. Sometimes loads.

Give some thought to the possible consequences of this strike. All possible consequences.
