Watching the awful images from Syria I was just shouting at the tv thinking this is so awful and that the world has to do something. However the situation is incredibly complex and difficult as it is it's not possible to resolve by dropping more bombs. The cynic in me cannot imagine that a narcissist like Trump does anything purely to help others. There's always something in it for him, like the being seen as the hero and the good guy. Let's hope it doesn't go horribly wrong.

Russian media say, there was some international commission that checked Assad has no chemical weapons anymore, so the chemical attack was a provocation used as a reason for today's strike.

I agree it's a knee jerk reaction by someone not fit to be in his position. He must be stopped. He's reacted the way any of us would at first look, he hasn't stopped to think of the ramifications of his actions. If he carries on many more "beautiful babies" will die. This isn't the right approach, I don't know what is (but I'm not President), but this has the potential to cause so much worse. For Syrian civilians and the rest of the world. I started a thread earlier saying that I believe this strike on an airstrip was done to take the heat off of the enquiry into his Russian dealings. If they (Trump/Putin) orchestrate a little tiff he wont look like a Russian poodle. The Syrian war is not new, scores of kids have died before today so why has this latest attack made him do a 180? We are being manipulated. May better not get us involved.

Why was Trump so vocal about blocking the air strike that Obama tried to get legally authorised through Congress in 2013, only to change his mind now that he is POTUS? Why didn't he go through Congress this time? Why has he said that he has no plans to oust Assad and that these strikes were a 'one off'? What have they achieved? Assad hasn't been bought to account, nothing has changed. What was the point? He has flexed his power, that is all. He doesn't care about the Syrian people. He has dropped his bombs and is now leaving them to it. Assad's regime will continue to bomb it's people, maybe not with chemical weapons but those regular explosives will still do the trick. What has he achieved? Nothing. So why has he done it? What is the bigger picture? Is it simply a display of power to try and silence all those who oppose and ridicule him?

It might be the right thing in this instance but in fact I find it more worrisome. He is very temperamental and doesn't think things through. In the space of hours he went from never wanting to intervene in Syria and criticising Obama for doing so, to intervening directly more aggressively than Obama or any western government, in conflict to his own advisor's wishes. Unpredictability is scary when someone has the missile launch codes.

Furthermore I call BS on his emotional reaction to children being gassed. He did this ostensibly against the wishes of Russia to present the image that he is not in collusion with Russia and he's not Putin's lapdog. Convenient timing considering the investigation into the Trump people -Russia dealings. Lastly, this strike was more symbolic than an effectual blow against Assad.

What Trump and his minions didn't predict very well was that Putin was more pissed off by this than they expected. Recently there has been a widening chism between Putin and Assad reportedly, I think Trump thought a symbolic (but not very effectual) show of missile strength would be forgiven by Putin. The white house is now desperately trying to reinstate the military back channel, the "deconfliction channel" that Putin abruptly pulled out of this morning... Trump is a toddler playing with real bombs.

Wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing was set up from start to finish - just think about that and remember those baby's faces. Dangerous, psychopathic men playing war games with absolute disregard for civilian life. But hey ho, they're Muslims so who gives a fuck?
