Make us laugh - applying for a job.

OK, so it's part of an application (yes, really!) that I will be sending via email.
I've been racking my brains, and I'm utterly stuck. I have a very dry sense of humour, and think that's mostly possible during conversations - not so easy as a one way thing.
Ignoring how Confused this is, please help me!

Don't.

An application is to show how your skills and experience relate to the position. It's likely to come off as inappropriate at worse and tone deaf at best.

What a load of shite. What does that tell you about the suitability of the candidate?!
Anyways, seeing as that's not very helpful, maybe a picture of a feather so they can tickle their strange little sense of humour with?

Just to clarify: they've asked you to make them laugh as part of the process?

Found on a humour website but this may not get you the job though.
An organization is like a tree full of monkeys, all on different limbs at different levels. The monkeys on top look down and see a tree full of smiling faces. The monkeys on the bottom look up and see nothing but assholes

Wow, I think that's a really hard thing to do - and actually an incredibly unfair question: assessment for cultural fit is what you'd normally use the interview for.

Favourite one liner?

Urgh, what a fucking nightmare. Do you have to actually tell them a joke, perform for their amusement or could you put together something amusing on like, youtube, say, and then have them watch it?

I'd be looking hard at the company as a whole. To prioritise something like that in the initial stages of the hiring process would throw up huge red flags for me, what are they neglecting by focusing on something superfluous to the role. However, I'm guessing it's a newish start up with a young management?

I would go for a funny story in which no one gets hurt but something that happened to you or family. Jokes are too individual to appeal to everyone.

Report
ParadiseCity · 05/04/2017 12:17

I would write a limerick/lightbulb joke/knock knock joke about the company.

SouthernNorthernGirl · 05/04/2017 12:24

It's not a company based in the UK -young(ish) management (early 30's)

I wont actually get to meet them in person, at least not during the initial stages. I have to send over the first application via email. Then it will move to Skype.

I agree it's a bit mad, however I get to work from home and the position is actually perfect for me.

Is this allowed or does it have to be your story?
This shows you are good with language, as well as being funny.

What did the zero say to the eight?
Nice belt.

Or.

The other day I had to fill out a job application for a really serious job.
Guess what they asked on the form?
No really, go on, give up?
They asked me to make them laugh! I know, ridiculous!

Just write 'Knock knock'

reuset · 05/04/2017 12:26

I'd write a limerick I think, I like to show off. Grin I don't much like the question, though, in a job application. Affiliate director you say and not children's entertainer!
