AIBU?

Insanely loud neighbours at 3am!!

I'm just venting, I am so furious and can't do anything about it! For the last few weekends my newish neighbours have been having parties every weekend which are super loud. This weekend is the worst. They're in a group, music on as loud as it will go, people screaming and shouting and banging the walls and making so so so much noise, I have no chance in hell of being able to sleep with this going on.

I called 101 but they can't do anything and recommend to call the council - the council does not have any emergency noise support, only a form to fill in online to report the noise which will end up with them sending a letter out to the neighbours. I already know that this isnt going to do anything.

I do not want to go round there or speak to them because I am 1 person, they are a group of what sounds like 4-5 people, mostly men, and its 3am and they are very likely drunk and from their constant screaming they sound very aggressive.

What can I do!? I am SO angry that this is allowed to happen with no immediate help from the council/police. I have to be out early tomorrow and can't sleep because of this!

I'm so sorry, I've had noisy neighbours at various addresses and the only solution I've found is to move. Police, council even HA do bugger all! My sympathies Flowers

I'm sure the police can come and say something. I'm sorry it must be so annoying, especially at this hour. We live on a quietish street, but all the kids have grown up having cars, which you can hear in the small hours, which also act as congregation points, plus a better substitute for their phones music wise. Nothing we can do about it.

Hopefully it gets quiet soon BrewFlowers

Try 101 again and say that you are feeling frightened due to the aggressive behaviour and language.

Fingers crossed that will push them to do something.

It's still going on so far... I'm on my computer and the monitor is literally shaking around from the neighbours banging/stomping/bashing around so loudly (terraced house so joined walls)

AIBU if I call 101 again and say it sounds like its turned into a fight? Then they'll have to come and shut them up...

Call 101 again, it's unacceptable at this time of night, especially if it's been happening most weekends!

Poor you, it sounds Hellish. Selfish idiots Angry

Won't help right now, but would you be able to speak to other neighbours later on? Chances are that everyone is as pissed off by the noise every weekend, and if you all join forces there'd be safety in numbers to approach A-holeNeighbours?

Do they have adjoining neighbours the other side, too?

YANBU to say that at all. If you explain that the noise and shouting is really scaring you and you think that there is violence then they will have to come out.

Oh, and record example of just how loud it is. Evidence.

Do you have kids? If so, send them out to play in the garden bright and early 9am Sharp. If not, mow the lawn for at least an hour.

Then go out for the day but turn your speakers facing their wall at the top of your stairs and play heavy metal or opera at maximum volume while you go out for the whole day.

Alternatively, you need to drill a few holes in a plank of wood near their side of the wall. Fix the fence maybe bang a few planks together with a hammer.

Make as much noise as possible whilst they try to sleep their hangover off.

Our neighbour in our previous house did this at least once a month so you have my sympathy! My favourite trick was as a previous poster said was to plug in my speakers and play music next to their bedroom wall from 9am onwards! Deeply satisfying Grin

no kids - luckily, or I'd be going mental! The neighbours are actually often in their garden early in the mornings... drinking beer :) I do have dogs though so I am wary of being too hostile to the neighbours for incase they take it out on the dogs when they're outside to go to the toilet...

Noise is still going on, it sounded like they were IN my house at one point, their stomping was that loud it was like they were running up my stairs with metal boots on! I tried to record the noise on my phone but it doesn't seem to pick it up that good. I can't explain how loud it is but when I first noticed it I had to check that I hadn't got the TV on by accident.

I have no idea how they even have the stamina to be still making so much noise. I'm sort of hesitant to phone the police again, it takes about 15 minutes to even get through on 101 because I get put on hold and they might know I'm lying if I say it sounds more aggressive etc, this would be the third call to them this morning!

Call your council's noise control department, I think this is beyond the remit of the police now. Unless you call them again and report it as anti social behaviour which it is, mention substances and drunk and disorderly conduct.

Don't lie to the police just to 'get them there'. They are so short staffed and there are so many more actual emergencies that they could be attending rather than your 'fake' one.

I got so angry (noise still happening!!!) and went round there and kicked on their door. A man answers "it my birthday". I said so what? You've been loud all night and I didn't sleep at all so please turn your music down it's fucking annoying. "But it my birthday" ...... so I came back home and now the music is even louder.

I'm fucking furious that nothing can be done about this!!!!

Selfish man!

Did you get any sleep OP

I strongly suggest talking to your neighbours and everyone putting music on 8am.

Keep a log. Get your neighbours to log it too. Get your neighbours to complain also to the council.

No sleep at all. It started in the day time yesterday at 1pm and has gotten louder ever since. Absolutely ridiculous. Called police again (101) who said they have no authority to tell them to turn the music off and I'll have to complain to the council on Monday. What am I meant to to until then???? I'm considering getting a fucking hotel room so I can sleep but I can't really afford it and why should I have to?!

At a loss for what to do I am just sat here literally crying I am so exhausted

Are the houses owned or rented OP ? If rented you could put a complaint to the landlord. Most contracts have a clause about anti social behaviour. If not then it's environmental health at the council. I really feel for you. Do you have family nearby who can offer a quiet bed ? Save the cost of a hotel. Sleep deprivation is so horrible. Both houses are rented out by the same estate agent. I intend to call them on Monday and report it - mainly because from all the banging they've been doing there must be some damage to the house!!

Best get yourself some DJ/industrial strength ear plugs. When I had pig ignorant neighbours my ear plugs were a godsend when they were remixing drum and bass at 2am. It took 9 months to sort it, they were eventually served with a noise abatement order which did the trick up until I moved out.
