To ask your opinion on my child's weight?

My 6.9 year old weighs 2 stones 12. I'm worried they may be underweight. She eats plenty but is looking a bit thin at the moment. She was 25th centile for height and weight last time it was checked by the nurse but its been about a year and a half.

Do you know how tall she is?

My 2.5 year old weighs 13.7kg and when I looked up the stones/kgconversion, your DD doesn't weigh much more.
That doesn't sound right to me at all, I'd be going to the GP for a proper weigh and measure and some advice

I think that's on the light side, maybe check with GP?

My 6.7yo DS is 135cm tall and 4st 12. He does around 6hrs of sports a week, inc 3.5hrs of swimming so he is pretty muscular.

How tall is your DD?

My 16 month old dd weighs 1stone 13 lbs, my nephew who is 7 in june weighs 4 stone 10-12lbs (i think, last tìme i weighed him.)

If she's the same percentile for height and weight I think its ok, unless moved between percentiles, what was she born at?
Does seem a bit on the light side thought.
Is she generally healthy?

Sorry posted too soon.
Definitely go the docs and see what they say. Dont worry too much about it though until you seek professional advice. Everything could be fine and youd be worrying for nothing.

My two and a bit year old weighs 15.5 kg, which is roughly 2.4 stone, so it does seem like your Dd is on the small side.

My 8 year old is pretty small and slight and was 21kg in the summer, so your DD may not be way off. How tall is she? Put her details into the NHS BMI calculator- drs tend to worry if children come out below the 2nd centile.

If she is in normal range, even if towards bottom end, does she eat well and have a healthy diet? Does she seem well and have plenty of energy? Enjoy normal 6 year old life? If so, unlikely to be a problem! If not, have a chat with GP?

That's between the 2nd-9th centile, so it's definitely on the light side, but still within the normal range.

Is the child petite? What build are the parents? What percentile line are you on?

My children surf the lower percentiles. Someone has to. It doesn't mean they are unhealthy but if you are worried, always best to check.

My 6 year old is 18kg which I think is under 2 stone 12. I'm not at all worried about her weight.

2 stone 12 is about 18kg, which puts her on the 9th centile for weight. Perfectly within the normal range, but you need to look at it in the context of what her height is doing and her general health and wellbeing.

My 4 yo ds is 110cm tall and weighs 2stone 10. He's within the healthy range but is definitely more on the skinny side than most of his peers.

It does sound light for a 6 yo unless she is particularly short.

Have a check of her height and see percentiles, check BMI

My just turned 7 year old DS is 3st 3lbs and tall - he is underweight but very healthy and happy with it! Been checked by doctor and there's nothing wrong, he's just naturally very slight.

Oh and the same percentile for weight and height thing doesn't make much sense for children, for adults it does, but not so much for kids because of varying growth rates.

Fozzleyplum · 23/03/2017 20:57

Definitely check your DDs BMI and then see what percentile she is for her age. It's not necessarily anything to worry about. DS1 was always around 3rd centile for BMI until now (mid teens) when increased muscle mass has shot him up the charts to 20th centile. He was always perfectly healthy, just tall and thin.

Some children are just thin; they look more noticeable nowadays, as the average seems so much bigger than a generation or two ago. If the BMI is ok, I'd only be concerned if my child was a lot shorter than expected, or had health problems.

My 3.5 yo DD weighs over 3 stone! She's on the 98th centile for height though and is outside walking/running/climbing for 2-3 hours a day so I think very muscle-y.

Thank you all. Just checked on that bmi site and its says she is on 12th centile and a healthy weight. Smile

Glad to hear it, OP. I was just about to ask if she did sport or dance.

Sound ok to me. My 8 yr old is 3 stone 4. Children's weight varies so much, my 10 yr old is 4 stone 4 and her best friend is 7.5 stone (she's taller!) But both are within normal range

My 7yo (8 in June) weighs 19kg, which google tells me is 2st 14. She's not tall either, and her bmi is on the lighter side of normal.

I took her to the GP about it when she was 3 and was told she's on the small side but nothing to worry about, so I didn't. I would recommend having a word if you're worried though.

Obviously I'm not an imperial person, 2st 14 is 3st, isn't it? Grin

Ds is almost 8 and he only weighs 3.5 stone! He's short though (just 4ft) and ridiculously active. He eats like a horse so it's just because he's naturally skinny and very active.

My son will be 3 in 4wks time and he weighs 2stone 12. He is tall and slim (more the height of a 4 yr old, on the 98th percentile for height)

I'm not sure I can imagine him being that much taller and still weighing the same if I'm honest. There's nothing of him as it is!
