4 negative preganancy tests and missed period

aibu1983 · 17/03/2017 08:59

I am over 2 weeks late for my period, i have done 4 different tests including one in the nurses office before a smear and all have come back negative.

i am on the pill although i will admit i have taken it late on a couple of occasions.

i have noticed i am feeling a weird sensation in my stomach and am slightly constipated, my moods are also erratic at the moment.

am i being unreasonable to think i could be pregnant?

its not the best timing as i am due to get married in december and have a honeymoon booked but we did plan to start trying on honeymoon so its not the end of the world.

When i was pregnant the first time (twins) i was very emotional immediately and had an aversion to smells and went off my food.

i dont want to get my hopes up but it does seem likely.

If you've done four different pregnancy tests and they're all negative, I would think it's highly unlikely you're pregnant.

How old are you, OP?

Unless the 1983 is an obvious clue Smile

I skipped 2 periods with negative POAS and blood test from doctor.

Stress can just do this. (stress also causes wierd stomach issues....)

Probability is that you are not pregnant. just test again in a weeks time, and if you are really worried, you can speak to your gp.

I had three negative tests when I had my DSs and I was over two weeks late. No idea why they constantly showed negative cost me a bloody fortune

Having said that there could be loads of other reasons, our bodies often react to different things in different ways.

i'm 33, whether i am or not there is clearly something going on which is worrying, i have never missed a period before. i have less stress at the moment than in the past and have never had these symptoms from it. i have suffered from IBS but it was very different. At the moment i have been eating all the correct foods so shouldnt be constipated.

My friend had negative tests too and was pregnant. i dont want to use another test just yet and think i will wait until my next period is due.

33 would be really early for it to be menopausal then! In that case I would would chalk it up to "sometimes our bodies just do weird things". Doctors won't even have a look unless you've missed 3 periods in a row.

I had negative tests throughout one of my pregnancies, it was confirmed by a blood test in the end.

The other very slight possibility is to check thyroid function as the pill can increase the need for thyroxine esp if you were slightly unknowingly under active already.

How long on this pill?

Thanks for the replies, i am aware you can get false negative tests, less than 2 years on this pill but on previous pill since i was 17 with short breaks for pregnancy and coil.

what symtoms do you get with underactive thyroid ? never had issues with that before

People can get negative pregnancy tests and still be pregnant because they are testing too early.

But you're 2 weeks late that's totally different.

You're on the pill and four preganacy tests say no.
It's extremely unlikely that you're pregnant.

It's clear you want to be though so come off the pill and TTC

i wouldnt intentionally try to get pregnant now as my wedding is planned for December so i will stay on the pill. I would be happy if i was pregnant and so would my fiance but we were going to wait so we could have a honeymoon. its mixed emotions at the moment.

I have heard of people who are pregnant but don't get a positive home test until well into the first trimester. Probably quite rare though.

And it could be any number of other things.

Go to your GP and get a blood test done. They're more accurate than poas.

Have you been losing weight for the wedding, OP? That can mix things up a bit - I had to go to the gynae for mid cycle spotting a few years ago (I had diagnosed myself with everything from early menopause to cancer of course!) - turned out to be due to fat loss because of a seriously good personal trainer.

That made me laugh! Surely the giving birth bit at the end was also a bit of a clue Grin I'm picturing you in hospital, ready to push but everyone saying you're only imagining it, don't be silly. Suddenly someone bursts into the room waving the latest blood test results: "it's ok, she really is pregnant!"

Not helpful to OP, sorry

Periods can be late, I was 10 days late this month, not pregnant but probably so late as I didn't seem to ovulate (been TTC so tested ovulation this month). I am not pregnant.

Although with my DD I was 5 days late before getting a positive.

Maybe get a GP appointment for Monday for a blood test? you cancel this if your period arrives?

because i am on the pill i can set my watch to having my period though. no ive not been losing weight for my wedding, i have previously lost 2 stone with no missed periods (3 years ago) i want to lose half a stone but not in a rush or i would put it back on Grin

its just frustrating and i have 10 more pills to take this month before i will know if i miss a period again. i dont think the docs would agree a blood test if i am still taking my pill until at least my next break would they?

I would guess you're not pregnant. Hormone fluctuations (maybe stress or excitement about the wedding) can cause late periods and tummy issues.

It is possible. I only had a positive test when i was 2 weeks late. Some people have lower beta HCG levels than others. It's probably more likely that you're not pregnant though.

Op, this happened to me and it was an ectopic pregnancy. I would really go and get checked out by the doctor. They can do a blood test to check for pregnancy.

I had four negative pregnancy tests with my second son and only tested positive with him around cycle day 61. When I went for my 12 week scan I was 15 weeks. Do you have long cycles? I do so and wondered if that was why.

thank you for all the replies, i know from google doctor Blush that there are many other things it could be so if its not pregnancy i am slightly concerned. my last period was due on 27th February so i'm 18 days late! my last negative test was done this tuesday, would it be worth waiting to see if i get my next period before taking another test and booking a doctors appointment?

That's the advice on the leaflet in pill packets. If you miss one period carry on as normal, if you miss 2, test/or see a doc.

HepKestrel · 17/03/2017 11:51

why don't you book a GP appointment for after your next period is due?
you can always cancel it. And if the next period is missed, you will have an appointment.

I always feel better when I have a plan. This may be enough to relieve some stress.

If you are on the pill and have 4 negative pregnancy tests then I think it's safe to say that you are not pregnant.
I would wait for the next one to come before going the GP
