AIBU?

I have no oven!!! ☹️

Was so excited when shiny new Zanussi oven arrived yesterday.

Doesn't work.

Electrician says appliance is faulty. So called John Lewis and explained. They said could replace it in 10 working days!!

I understand it can't be same day/next day, but 2 weeks!

Also. I said what would happen about installation, given it's a faulty product? They said they might be able to do it cheaper. AIBU to want free installation after already paying for the installation and the oven is faulty?

Was on the phone for nearly an hour trying to sort it out.

Also did a big shop for food/dinners involving our new oven.

DH would put our old one back. But they took it away to dispose of it Sad

Make a hay oven for now? Really easy and excellent for slow cooking. www.instructables.com/id/hay-box-cooker/

Get ten takeaways and make them cover the cost? Wink

Phone them again and insist they pull their finger out.

And installation will be free, since they chose to install a faulty one.

Ring back, give 'em hell. And insist on some Just Eat vouchers.

Get back on the phone to JL, I do not believe they do not have access to another oven in the country.

I love the takeaway idea!!

Like when your car is being repaired, I need a courtesy oven Grin

Go somewhere else that has a next day delivery and cancel your order with Jl, simple !

I will call them again. I wasn't really in the right frame of mind earlier. Not sleeping at all, DS2 is ill baby and jiggling him in one arm, phone in other...

But yes, felt like I should have fought harder. I did say 2 weeks is too much, but she said there's nothing they can do. She said I could choose a different oven that might arrive quicker, but they are all more expensive.

And I was a bit Shock at having to pay again for install. Maybe she was new. She did put me on hold a hundred times to check with manager each thing I asked.

Surprised for JL.

I saw the haybox on further back in time for dinner! Didn't even know about that.

I have no washing machine. It stopped working yesterday!

That kind of service is why I stopped using JL. They delivered me a dented dryer, phoned them straight away and they made me wait until they had finished the deliveries before they came to collect it even though they were only up the road. I declined a replacement.

Washing machine, bought before Christmas, delivered OK but had a fault, a major one. Was told that we had it more than 2 weeks so not eligible for an exchange or refund. They chose the wrong person to say that to. It was sorted out fairly quickly once I got on to it.

We bought a washing machine (another house), needed quickly which should have been a few days delivery time. After paying it became 6 weeks delivery time. We cancelled it, bought one from AO and it was here the next day, exactly the same machine. We are still getting paperwork from JL every year for something we don't have.

I need an oven but not getting it from JL.

You really have to be firm with them. I would personally tell them you no longer require it and go elsewhere because it won't get any better (sorry).

I had no oven for months. I bought a little counter top halogen oven which was fine, I mostly cook on the hob which is separate and was still working. I now have a new oven and rarely use it!

Oh no lozzy! Ours went yesterday too (yes, our week is going very well). But thanks to you tube and DH, he fixed it. Thank god. No oven and no washing machine not fun.

Can make all oven things on a pan with a lid (then finish under a grill), or a steamer (steamed cake/bread is yum) or microwave. Just need to modify the recipe.

Previously - that sounds awful! Used to swear by JL for electricals, but not impressed by them right now.

I'd ask them to refund the lot including the install and buy elsewhere.

Lady on phone said just use your microwave for 2 weeks. Might be one of the only households in the U.K. without a microwave.

Have you asked them on their Facebook page why the service is so poor (giving the details re wait and second installation charge)?

Zanussi is wank anyway.

When I was looking at washing machines the salesman kept going on about how fabulous the Zanussi ones were. I opened the little drawer on one at it came off in my hand. Could see why they were trying so hard to shift the buggers. Shoddy.

Ha, we do not have a microwave either. I've also just ditched the dishwasher. I've moved into a tiny Victorian cottage and do not have the space anymore. I do cook outside on the BBQ whatever the weather though. All you need is a brolly and a gin and tonic.

I've got a twitter account, so I could tweet about poor service, that's a good idea.

Skip the brolly and the tonic.

BBQ and gin. We've got your back.

Yes King, Zanussi brand doesn't bode well if brand new oven doesn't work.

I thought they were good?!

This one self cleans too. Well, if it worked that is.

Get a refund and order from AO. They are great

Report
bloodyteenagers · 28/02/2017 18:05

I would ask for a full refund including installation and tell them you are going to ao.com who will have the oven delivered and installed by Thursday. 2 weeks takes the absolute piss.
