Remember the recent thread about the elderly man who asked the current owners of his and his wife's previous home if he could bury his wife's ashes in the garden?

It's going to be discussed on Matthew Wright's show this morning Hmm

Why is this a big deal?

Most stories on these types of programmes are plucked from he internet.

well, on this occasion the program is about someone who had nothing to do with MN and didn't share their private life online, so it feels uncomfortable. I hope they cannot be identified if they don't want to.

I didn't say it was a big deal....it doesn't have to be for me to start a thread about it! Hmm

The wright stuff does this all the time...I think Matthew is frequent visitor of MN Smile

I think it's a big deal if your neighbour start a thread about you, and your private life ends up plastered on national TV. About this story, I hope the old owner and his family can keep their privacy if they wish to do so, and cannot be recognised based on the program.

Oh god, that's awful. Such a sensitive thread.

Yes I saw this too. I feel sorry for ops that start threads for some advice then it ends up on tv or in dm !

If you're posting on a public thread then I think it's wise to consider:

  1. If made (even more) public, would you be happy that all and sundry know your business
  2. would you be happy being identified
  3. would others in the thread be happy being identifiable

if you choose to make aspects of your life public then I think you need to live with the consequences. It's not the first time a thread has been the subject of a public debate (leftover curry for school) and I'm not sure people really consider this before posting

Maud - it is an open Internet forum. The story has already been shared with anyone in the world who wants to read it. Man is not a private space..

*MN, not man...

Has anyone informed the op of the original thread?

Since bloody Penis Beaker, MN is now fair game in the media. Standard fodder. The more insensitive / sensational the thread, the better for them. 🙄

The Wright Stuff do it all the time.

smile I know and I know the fair use argument Smile but it still irks me. Some people don't think before they post and they may just be at the end of their wits looking for support.

It is really irrirating isn't but it is all over daytime Tv from victoria derbyshire to loose women I guess it is just something to talk about that might interest women viewers

Ok I've pmd the Original op.

It's the elderly widower and his family that I feel sorry for.

Usually when this has happened before the story has been about the OP themselves or their immediate family, which always seemed a bit more 'fair game' since they were the ones putting it on a public forum in the first place.

What a shame, such a potentially sensitive thread.

Report
SmileEachDay · 16/02/2017 10:28

surely people are savvy enough to change enough detail that it is not genuinely identifying though?

Imkindof, which is why when I've been tempted to seek advice on here on a really personal matter....I've had second thoughts about doing so.

If you don't want the thread to appear and be talked about elsewhere don't post it. It has happened often enough for people to understand that now.

My friend had loose women on the other week while i was waiting for her to dry her hair.. i dont watch and now i know why. Katie price was still going on about ' when i was married to Pete'.. They all seemed to talk over each other too. I gave up on matthew's programme years ago, he sucks up to the guests he clearly likes, is horrible to the ones that phone in that dont agree with him and the ads go on and on. He has been nasty about MN's too i believe.
