Fat shaming at work?

I work in a place with a communal kitchen area. There are a few full timers and mostly part timers. One person is on a low carb diet and is zealous. Yesterday someone else brought in a bar of chocolate to be eaten up as they are also on a diet.
During the day lots of staff ate a few squares of chocolate. Last thing the low carb dieter took the chocolate wrapper and stuck it to the wall. They highlighter the nutritional info and added post its. They said stuff like ' how much did you eat?'
Is this out of order?

Sorry, I don't understand.

Was the person targetting their comments at you?

It's a bit pathetic but it's not really targeted at anyone in particular is it. And how is it "far shaming"? Chocolate shaming maybe?

At our office we'd have a lot of fun with a message like that.Smile

Totally out of order.

None of her business, for one thing. And for another, even the most ardent low-carber can indulge in the occasional square of chocolate.

It's weird. I don't think it's fat shaming, as presumably thin people are it too, but it's like the born again vegans, she has discovered something she is passionate about and thinks every one else should discover it too.

I'd think they were being a bit twatty, yes. It's treating the rest of the workforce like children. I can read the label myself thank you!

Admittedly if they were pointing out allergens it would be a different matter - that's considerate, not twatty.

How is that fat shaming? Just ignore it, sheesh...

I really hate this new phrase "fat shaming"

Presumably skinny people eat chocolate too?

It's a dickish move but I wouldn't get het up about it or feel it was a personal attack. And people on fad diets that they make loads of fuss telling other people about rarely keep any weight off. It will pass.

As the token vegan in my workplace I feel compelled to say NAVALT Grin

It's not fat shaming but that person sounds like a proper dick. I'd start sticking crisp packets and kit Kat wrappers to their desk with post it's saying yummy yummy bad carbs everywhere Grin

I'm all for healthy eating and a fan of low carb but no one likes a diet bore.

I wouldn't call that fat shaming. A complete waste of office stationery and man hours. It's a bit a 'oh here we go' When people feel obliged to tell what's in a red bull or how many calories are in a Tuna mayonnaise etc., it's dull. If they had confronted the choccy chomper on the middle of the office and said 'and you wonder why you are the size you are?' then that would have been been fat shaming.

Navalt? North American Vodder Association of Lymphatic Therapy?

I have nothing against vegans, but in my experience some newly converted vegans want to tell everyone. Not all, obviously! It's an observation, not a criticism.

Its not just a vegan thing, clearly it can also be a low carb thing! And a religion thing and a TV programme thing etc etc

Throw a jacket potato skin at the wall and ask her to label it.

BewtySkoolDropowt · 21/01/2017 09:42

Our maybe a note saying 'sorry, was there none left for you?'

Report
SanitysSake · 21/01/2017 09:43

Totally unreasonable, but it certainly deserves a smart arse post-it-note in response saying 'Not nearly enough. Clearly you didn't either!'

No, not fat shaming.

Olympiathequeen · 21/01/2017 09:53

Just throw it in the bin. Eating the odd bit of chocolate doesn't make you fat or deserve someone's smug finger pointing.

"They highlighter the nutritional info and added post its. They said stuff like ' how much did you eat?"

In my office there would be competitive bragging about how much each of us ate. With Envy from those who got less. Why any shame?

Add a note asking how far she had to ram the stick up her arse to end up that much of a dick.

You're looking for something to be offended about which seems to be the theme around MN at the moment
